Hi girls,
I thought I would write up my story as I loved reading everyone elses stories.
My contractions started the early hours of Thursday morning around 2.30am, started off as period cramps but really strong. I tried to get back to sleep but nerves/excitement and the unknown kept me awake. I decided to get up aorund 4am so OH could sleep, I was managing to breath through the intensity at this point. OH stayed off work as we thought things were happening. My contractions stopped at 7.30am and returned around 12pm.
I had a mw appointment so went along to that still contracting at between 6-12mins apart for around 50secs. I was 3cm dilated so we knew something would be happening SOON!!
It was approaaching 6pm and decided to call the labour ward as my contractions were 3 in 10minutes sometimes 4 and were lasting over a minute. Sent home as I was still only 3cms!
We decided to get pizza for dinner and loads of junk food as I wanted to veg out..oh how I was wrong.
Around 8pm contractions were so bad that I was having to bend down to get through them and was begging OH to call the ward but he told me to hang on in for a bit longer as he didn't want me disappointed to get turned away again. By 10pm I was climbing the walls literally, so the call went in and off we went. The journey was intense even though we are 5minutes from the hospital.
We got there and I got examined to find I was 6cms! To my absoulte delight!!! I decided that I could handle the pain in the pool as being in the bath at home didn't help so opted for gas and air and a shot of a diamorphine, I ended feeling off my face and was blabbering about the baby being out by the break like on the TV shows!! haha
My midwives were amazing and so so supportive, one of them was a student and she was shadowed by her mentor who was fab and so chilled. I kept getting an urge to push around midnight so they examined me and I was 10cm!
So this was it when the feeling came I pushed and pushed.
I gave up on gas and air as it was making me feel sick, I was falling asleep between contractions I was drinking so much water and energy juice I just couldn't get hydrated not to mention way too hot as well.
My contractions slowed to 4minutes apart and I was so tired I just had no puff left, I'd been pushing for 2 hours and the midwife called in the consultant who decided that a ventouse delivery was the way ahead and if unsuccessful then it would be an Emergency C-sec
So off we went to theatre where I was prepped and OH changed into his scrubs..looked rather dapper and slightly concerned but he was strong for me.
The epi was amazing!! I can see why others want these!! So I was told when to push and off we went with 5 rounds of contractions our little baby girl was born, at 0315 7lb 15oz and she was worth every ounce of pain!! apperently some of the best pushing the theatre team had seen, not sure if that's a good thing? lol I was overwhelmed with total love and effection for her it was unreal! OH cut the cord and said he even had a look..downthere!!
I was so proud of him as he is skeamish and was my rock throughout.
Labour was hard and god I wanted it to end so badly but I wouldn't of changed a thing. Our baby girl decided to come out back to back which is why we had to have the ventouse but she wasn't distressed at all, just super sleepy the next day and didn't latch till Saturday night but other than that she has been amazing. Very content.
I ended up with a cut which the consultant stiched very neatly by all accounts and the stiches are on the inside so I can't see them. I even got the complimentary painkiller up the bum!
A long 25 hours in all.
I have blabbered on a lot, oops, but I just wanted to get out everything for those waiting for their babies.
I can't wait to do this again. I think I'm mad!
Thank you for reading and to all you lovely ladies who have given me adivce along the way. I look forward to seeing you all in Baby and Toddler!
xx
