Meant to post this yesterday, when i saw my midwife, she did the doppler and said promptly 'That's a boy heartbeat'
I have heard the old wives tales about lower than 140 is boy, but i was quite shocked (and a bit peeved) she sounded really matter of fact!
I have to say i'll be happy if its a boy or girl.
My baby's heartbeat is always between 120-130 bpm....
can anyone prove this theory wrong or right????

I am having a boy and had to go in for a trace last week due to reduced movement (everything was fine) and his heartbeat was 135bpm. Have heard the old wives tale too but not sure if it's just a coincidence?

So really I was no help at all there lol!

Mine is always between 130 - 140 and he's a BOY!!!!

Don't know if I really believe in all of that though.

Will be interesting to see though what you have :D

Probably not a question to ask if you really don't want to know gender! Stupid midwife :x

Anyway like all others, this is an Old Wives' Tale. However, it is GENERALLY considered to be one of the more reliable indicators of gender, i.e. more than half of babies correspond to the right gender given their heartbeat. I know Connie's is 150-160 and she's a girl.

There will of course be others for whom it isn't true, but there will be fewer of these because generally speaking there is some truth in this.

I knew Manda's baby was a boy the moment she posted the heartbeat - her OH was gutted :rotfl:

Yeah to be honest i have always thought it was a boy...i'm about 70% its a boy, but i also really want a girl...but I almost feel it will be a boy now she said that. Silly woman. My OH didn't take to her either...hopefully she's nowhere near me when i actually give birth! :x

She shouldn't have made a comment like that unless you had asked if it sounded like a boy or girl :x

The heartbeat thing is not 100% accurate so she might be wrong

at my last mw appointment my babies HR was 178, and at my 20 week scan we found out we were having a boy!

My LO was 160 the first time we heard it but the other day it was 140 and she's a she. Lol. So who knows!

yep mines is usually 120/140ish and is a boy, i've seen it go upto 170ish when he starts jumping about, but normally it's around the 130ish mark :D

well i am having a boy and his has been between 110 and 160 at different times when ive had trace done in hospital. i was told this is a normal range for babies. i dont believe they can tell as my little girls hb was similar.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to it hun, I have had 2 scans and both times they have 'thought' it was a boy, but I have also had 2 different midwives listen to the heartbeat and thought girl :?

Will let you know which was right if I ever pop :D

ooohhh thats cool, i don't mind at all either way..but i don't want to think i know..if u get me????

I had a trace on Saturday and my LO's heartbeat went from 100bpm all the way to 180bpm

My midwife keeps changing her mind first it was a boy and now she thinks it is a girl. Either she is confussed and it is an old wives tale or my baby is confussed! I wouldn't worry about it too much - i think it must be something midwives do to keep themselves amused!

looking at his notes, James heartbeat was usually around 140-144bpm.

They've never told me what the heart rate is for this baby, I'll ask at my midwife appointment tomorrow.

Well had appointment today and same midwife  told me it was a girls heartbeat  150bpm!!!! So she's changed her mind in 4 days!!! I don't even thinks she remembers saying anything...i don't want to know!!! I know its not accurate but we want a surprise.... grrrr...really annoyed me.
So if it is a boy, it disproves the theory now!!! :wall:

Mines usually around 160 and shes a girl. but tbh my heart rate is quite high so i jsut assumed thats why hers was too
