Can anyone help, recommend or point me in the right direction?

Rightly or wrongly I am now looking into getting a carrier as I am sick of having the pram being taken from me or being made to feel bad when I say no that they can't push him so the only way I can stop this is by buying a carrier...

Ideally I would like one that is supportive for both me & my little boy I want to feel like he is safe in their & that he isn't going to 'drop out'. Also I need to be able to get the carrier on & off with ease (this potentially is where it will get tricky as I know I would possibly need to go into store to try out) & then the big one safety!

Hi I did quite a lot of research before buying my stokke carrier. I didn't want a wrap as I wanted something more structured and I wanted something that would last for a number of years, the stokke can carry a child of up to 3.

You can watch the YouTube video of how easy stokke make it look I get on and off and my husband does it this way but I can't get a handle on it. I just take the panel off, lie baby down and strap him in and then attach it back on to me. My friend has a different carrier and does the same as she can't work gets out either!

Here's a picture of my husband (who is a totally pram and carrier hogger so I can't avoid your issue!!).

Sounds like everything i am looking for in a carrier apart from the sounds of things it doesn't sound like it is easy to get on which could cause an issue as i would panic each time that it was on correctly & safetly so he wouldn't fall out of it. How much was it please?

Awww he is your husband so that's allowed :p this is only a family member who likes to take over & i swear it's like she thinks he is hers it is getting annoying again

We have a Beco Gemini which we both love and is easy to use. :)

I'm a long time babywearer I just love the closeness and honestly I wouldn't go for the stokke. It is expensive, complicated and doesn't allow babies to sit in an optimal position. I know it says its ergonomically tested but its not fully knee to knee and front facing isn't recommended as it pushes baby's spine the wrong way. These things alone can cause hip dysplasia, can you search out your local sling group/meetings? These are great for trying out all the carriers and which one suits you and baby best, you can also rent some to try out.

If not I recommend a Connecta or Tula these are supportive buckle easy carriers which you can go on to back carry a toddler or older! They're fab and half the price too hehe. Save your pennies and look into it x

thank you that really helps! I never thought that i would want to baby wear just because i was always nervous about the safety & also because i suffer with a bad back so didn't think it would be practical!

I've tried to have a look at some groups & they don't have any in my area (West Yorkshire) & i really do want to make sure i get the best one for both me & my little boy.

sadly i can't afford a huge amount on a sling but i also want to make sure that i get one that works for us & is safe.

I've got a few carriers (bit of an addiction/ finding the right fit for me and my son)

When he was newborn we used the moby stretch wrap, once you've got the hang of wrapping it then you're off! I've also used it a few times in a hip carry with him being bigger but now I've got the ergo 360 which is also great and means with the newborn insert I can use it for baby 2 when they arrive in November.

If you don't have a sling library in your area do you have Facebook? Might be a baby wearing group nearby to you where you could ask for advice on there, that's how I decided on the ergo.

With the right carrier it shouldn't affect your back at all :)

Second the facebook groups I've learnt so much from all the support and advice on them.

My first was a strrtchy wrap for £20! Just love my newborn squishes, you'll soon become addicted and the pram will gather dust :)

Thank you so much everyone your help is so valuable for me right now! I don't think that i wouldn't have felt comfortable baby wearing when he was first born as he was tiny & i would have been worrying about him falling out which i know is silly but i guess i have to feel comfortable!

I do use facebook on the odd occasion yeah so i shall do a search on there to see if any come up.

Are they america based? They look nice i love the prints!

I think so. We bought ours from a sling library but I have seen them on eBay for cheaper. X

I'm hoping that i can find a sling library as i really now want to try one to see how i get on esp after our day out today as certain paths wasn't suitable for our pram.

I did an online search & manage to find the uk website & ouch they are a lot of money!

They are expensive but worth it. I use it a lot. Much easier than wrestling a pram on London transport. If you can find a library they are well worth a visit. The South London Sling Library where I went have a very comprehensive website with descriptions and reviews of loads of different carriers and slings which might be useful to you even if you are nowhere nearby.

This!

I ended up buying a new pram under 1 years old because pushing it was killing my back.. Now I occasionally act as if my buggy is a packing donkey and I stuff it and I stuff it bad, the heavier it gets and the bigger baby gets the more easier it is to bend a little whilst walking and it like breaks your back! Now theres been many times where I'd just wanted to wear him and especially on my back but I feel like am too late at 2 years old.. A buggy can be a massive convenience but also a massive inconvenience so on the advise from other moms who do wear, do find out about all the type of wraps there are available and go to support groups where people can teach you how to wear and feel comfortable.. It's one of the biggest regrets I have done not having had digged a little deeper.... I even know a mom whose got a son my son's age and on the occasion carries her two babies! I think theres about a 13-14 month age gap between the two!

You might find this useful: http://www.which.co.uk/baby-and-chi...ng-a-sling-or-baby-carrier/baby-sling-safety/

I read on another post the comment about forward facing carrying so frantically started searching for information in this and couldn't find anything other than non medically supported blogs. I see on the Which page above it says the same.

A sling library sounds like it would be good for you. I would also keep an eye on eBay if you like any of the more expensive carriers as, as said above, they may last longer. I bought one on eBay first (never received it though so got a refund and then bought a new one from a shop) as its full of carriers that people have only used a couple of times x

After deciding I wanted to get a carrier as baby is a Velcro baby, I realised I was clueless about carriers, wraps etc. So, in my true fashion, I did A LOT of research. Was on the verge of buying a Stokke, but decided not to after I read reviews.

Ended up going to a local sling library and hiring a caboo DX which I did not like one bit, and then hired a connecta.

When I gave the connecta back, I didn't have anything to carry him in so ended up using a bjorn which I bought when pregnant. I used it for a week or so, but I put a rolled up Muslin at the bottom so baby's legs didn't hang like spaghetti!!!! Never using it again.

Ended up buying a Connecta as baby quite liked it. Ergonomic design was a must for me, and so was compactness. It's easy to fit into a changing bag, other carriers are bulkier and not easy to fold.

I started with a stretchy wrap from Bug-a-bub since DS was 2 weeks till around 4 months, then switched to a TULA soft structured carrier, which we absolutely love, even now at almost 9 kg, and it's supposed to go well into 16 kg. No back ache, husband also uses it a lot, and it's good for back carry too. It does't offer forward facing position. I can't recommend it enough, and they have gorgeous designs.

Allthongsgirly not sure where abouts in West Yorkshire you are but there's a sling library in pusses, Leeds (I'm in south Leeds)

I have a connecta and I love it- super easy to put on/take off and folds up nice and small x
