Sat 12th July
11pm Contractions start at 3mins apart and quite nippy. Expect it to be another false labour so try to ignore it and get to sleep. Just getting to sore to ignore so come downstairs so I dont wake the house.
12pm Still coming and at 3 mins apart but pain getting worse so call ward and get told to come to midwifes unit. Call best friend and babysitter and she heads over. Decide I can manage to drive myself (OH doesnt drive) and want the car there incase its a false alarm and get to go home.
Sun 13th July
1:15am Arrive at matty and get asked to go to labour ward instead due to preterm (36 +3)
Midwife measures contractions and records 3/4:10 moderate to strong and asks if I consent to an internal. Consent and tell her I will cry if Im still only 1cm. Turns out waters are bulging and cervix is very squishy and at 6/7cm but can be stretched out. Midwife thinks it will happen fast if waters go and gives them a good poke and cervix a sweep. Told we now have to wait 4 hrs for next internal so get comfy and wait. Contractions measuring upto 85 but handling them fine.
Contractions seem to slow down, less painful, very erratic.
5:30 am Next internal and possibly progressed to 7/8cm. Quite disappointed. Try standing and walking to get things going.
7am Shift change
8am New midwife wants to do another internal. No change and she thinks im maybe only 6/7cm so breaks waters. OMG!!! so much waters, Bed turned into a water slide! Contractions really pick up and getting intensely painful so start on the gas and air.
8:30am Not coping well with pain and ask for remifentanil.
8:40am Dr puts in IV and midwife goes to make up solution.
8:50am Screaming for the drugs now lol Midwife comes back with it and comes to hook it up but holds back.
8:53am 1st push and head crowns. (still begging for her to give me the drugs!! lol)
8:54am 2nd push and head is out. (pretty sure I tried to throw the gas and air thing at the midwife now)
8:55am 3rd push and body is out
Baby is popped onto my chest and cleaned and rubbed then taken away for a blast of Oxygen. Injection given for placenta.
OH has to leave the room for air lol
Baby taken back for cuddles and skin to skin as a bit cold and very very congested after the fast delivery.
Plancenta took 16mins to come away, all intact. Checked for bleeding and tears but all good.
OH manages to come back and we get cuddles for an hour then get cleaned up and move to the ward.
Try breastfeeding but Cai is too sleepy and cold so he is put in a hotcot for the night. Blood sugars are low (2.4) so given high energy milk every 3 hours until blood sugars at 4.3.
Taken off hotcot at temp 37 and monitored to see if he can maintain it himself.
Still trying breastfeeding and expressing.
Both get the all clear to go home
1st stage 9 hrs 52mins
2nd stage 3mins
3rd stage 16m mins
Longest labour yet and smallest baby yet. Staff were amazing and really enjoyed my stay this time.
So home and settled and Cai meets his older brothers and cracking on with trying to breast feed and expressing.
All in all a pretty ok experience.
