Unfortunately I had a horrible labour and didn't get the water birth I wanted but was just glad that Brooke arrived safetly. Here is my birth story:

I started having contractions early hours on the Sunday morning (40+1 weeks) but wasn't sure if that's what they were and baby wasn't moving much so I went up the hospital to get checked over. They confirmed I was having contractions and was 1cm dilated. Because I've had a couple of episodes of reduced activity with her, including the Friday before, they admitted me into hospital to induce me on the Sunday evening to move things along.

It was a nightmare from there, my contraction pains got so intense and I kept feeling the need to push but was only 2cm dilated and despite begging and crying they wouldn't give me any strong pain relief, this went on through to the Monday evening when my waters ended up breaking during a painful contraction. I was examined and told I was 4cm dilated. They finally agreed to transfer me to the labour ward where I got gas and air which helped a bit but not much so I begged for the epidural as need to push was so incredibly intense. On Tuesday morning I was still only 4cm dilated so they said if in 3 hours I hadn't progressed they would have to do a c section. They gave me a drip to try and help the process along, I was so sure I would have to have c section but after the given time when they checked I was over 9cm dilated and so said to give it 2 more hours and I should be ready to push. I could still feel contraction pains through the epidural, was in agony. They stopped me using the epidural an hour before they wanted me to start pushing. After about an hour and a half of pushing she was finally born at 7.51pm on Tuesday 7 August weighing 7lb 12! Everyone was surprised I managed to push her out myself and I surprised myself but I was so determined that they weren't going to cut me, use forceps etc. I managed to get away with having just 2 stitches which was good as she come out with her hand on her face!

3 sleepless nights of immense pain was made all worthwhile when I held her in my arms. I will be honest and say my experience has made me scared for when I'm ready to have baby number 2.

On a positive note, I have recovered quickly from giving birth and thought I was going to be a lot more sore than I was and the bleeding isn't no where near as bad as I thought it would be. Best of all, I am already back to my pre-pregnancy weight.

It truly is amazing the love you have for your baby, I already can't imagine my life without her and have never felt so happy.

x

Thanks Jayjay, your little princess is gorgeous too and how lovely to hear that they were born so close together sharing the same birth date.

It's a shame we didn't get the water births we wanted, it just goes to show you can't plan your labour! Hopefully we will be more lucky if there is a second time for us.

Aw thanks hun :hugs: I hope so too.

We shall see, my OH is so indecisive lol, he got the baby name book out last night, I said thought we'd decided, he said well I don't know! At least we're closer than we was with Millie, she didn't have a name for 2 weeks!

How are you and Brooke doing? x x

Haha, Brooke was the only name my OH agreed to from the list of names I had so it was quite an easy decision for us.

We are doing really well thanks, love being a mummy, could stare at her for hours!
