Just thought I would write up my birth story while I can still remember it!
2nd April
It was OH's last day off from using up his holiday so I was determined I wanted baby born now so he didn't have to go back to work! Decided since the sun was shining we would go on a big long walk so we put our daughter in the baby rucksack and off we went. I had absolutely no signs of anything happening up till now and the walk didn't seem to start anything either. Was feeling pretty grumpy tbh! Decided to try a cup of parsley tea and then we took the kids out for dinner. Still no signs. Got home and put the kids to bed and told OH he had no choice but to have sex with me! He told me there was no way this was gonna work but we dtd anyway
Almost immediately afterwards I started to get some tightenings and twinges but then proceeded to have a hot curry just to make sure!
Tightenings were coming every 3 mins for a bit but they started getting very irrregular but a wee bit painful through the night. I was up a lot between these pains and my daughter waking up so called work first thing and said I wasn't coming in.
3rd April
Got up and was still getting irregular pains but they were getting to the point I needed to stop doing what I was doing when I got them! They were varying from about 6-20 mins apart! OH went to work at 12 and I put my daughter for her nap and rang mum. She came home from work just in case because her second baby labour was only a couple of hours and she thought I might be the same! We decided a wee walk to the shop was a good idea and I had a contraction whilst trying to pay for my shopping so was desperately trying to string words together haha.
Called the midwife when I got home and they came to check me. They decided not to do an internal and said it was probably latent phase and to call whenever I needed them. They left just before 4 and mum went to pick up my stepdaughter from school. Then this is where they picked up in strength massively. Started coming every couple of minutes so long as I was standing up! Decided to get OH home from work at 5 and he came and moved the toys out the way and replaced them with my beanbag! Then we called the midwives back. Mum was giving the kids dinner in the other room but I needed her to get some extra towels from her house so sent her to do that and got OH to watch the kids. So was just me in the sitting room and all of a sudden I had a contraction where I could feel baby moving right down. OH came back a few mins later so asked him to get paracetemol and the shower curtain to protect the carpet because baby was coming nowish!
Midwives arrived in a bit of a panic as my stepdaughter answered the door and said baby was coming now - tbh she was right! My waters went as they walked in and they sent OH upstairs to get clothes and nappy. When he came back there was a head coming out! Our little boy was born at 6.20pm weighing 7lbs 9oz. The midwives were there for only 7 mins before he arrived!
He is perfect and I am so in love. OH is loving having a wee boy for a change and we are coping quite well with 2 under 2 so far!
I am doing great, definitely don't feel like I've had a baby recently! Didn't need any stitches despite the speed!
So glad I had a home birth - was definitely the best choice for me
