Babies and hot weather

id say if they arent drinking much then add in water cos hot weather knocks them out a bit so they might not bf much either. you know your baby, if they suddenly stop having wet nappies or their soft spot gets sunken then give them extra water. milk has a lot of water in it so as long as they arent appearing dehydrated and are drinking plenty of milk i can see they might not need the extra. id always do what you think is best as ultimately you know your child and will be able to tell if they seem off.

Was just going to do a thread asking about water!! Wasn't sure what to do this morning. E woke up at 9.30 and had nearly 6oz milk (ff) then I offered her cooled boiled water and she took another 2oz. Didn't quite want to finish her milk and seemed happy with the water, but should I have offered more milk instead? Also she has been a bit whingy this morning and has already gone back down for a sleep. Is this the heat? Are other people's LOs more sleepy when it's warm?

Well I've packed water and we'll see how he goes :)

PP LO will be fine having more boob. Anything 5 mins and under will be a drink. Last summer Oscar just had drinks from me until he got to 6 months, then his feeds reducued to 3 a day and inbetween he had water from a sippy cup.

But, if you do wanna give water it won't do him any harm obvs xxx

I'm just sticking with the boob as I've not yet tried giving Harry a bottle with anything in and don't really want to til he's at least 6 weeks

Helly Harry is more sleepy. So much so he slept 6.5 hours last night and this
Morning he's had a 2 hour nap (he's still sleeping)

Normally morning naps are around 40 mins!!

We were told at blw talk that they can have tap water once over 6months. Before that it has to b freshly boiled then cooled. Thought bf's just offered more frequently? Guess no harm in water tho. Atm I give Ethan water in his lidded beaker at breakfast and put the beaker in the fridge so the water is nice and cool when he has it later. Just offer it at mealtimes or whenever he seems hot! X

What the fudge I've still been boiling water like a right muppet and running it under the tap for god knows how long! Lol.

He doesnt like just water though, so I put a few drops of fresh orange or apple juice in with it, makes a tiny difference. X

I didn't know that either about just using tap water after 6 months either lol xx

Me neither!

Sorry If I sound dumb but why would bottle fed babies not be offered milk more often if that's what breast feeders would do?

I always boil water in the morning and let it cool and take it with me every day - I've done this since Ella was tiny as advised by my HV

Xx

Pringle its.coz.Boobs react to baby, unlike formula so in hot westher your body produces more thirst quenching foremilk. Also baby will.feed for.a short.amount of time as a drink.whereas.formula is always the same consistancy etc so gd babies need supplementary water x

That was meant to be ff not.gd LOL, also if a ff baby is thirsty rather hungry they.need water.as opposed to more milk.

Yeh, I didn't know about the tap water thing til we went to the talk and my best mate told me too! Makes life much easier! What makes me confused is Ethan will drink chilled water but still wants his milk hot in this weather!!!
