First and foremost, just wanted to say thank you to all the ladies on here that have answered any questions, listened to all the rants and provided any advice, there is a big part of me that needed all your support during this pregnancy. Love to you all xx
So here goes.....
Woke up on Sunday 23rd March 2014 at about 7:30am with what felt like painful trapped wind, so I went to the toilet and had one (rather large) poo! (Lol!)
I got back into bed and laid chatting to David, after about 10 minutes another pain came but this time is was a lot more in the front like a strong period pain, after a quick joke and giggle about "wouldn't it be funny if your massive poo sent you into labour" another pain arrived.
We waited in bed for a couple more then made the decision to get showered and dressed, pack everything into the car.
At about 9:15am David went to walk the dog knowing we'd be leaving him for a while and I called the Hospital. Whilst routing around for my NHS number on the phone to the midwife my water broke which was quickly followed by "right, you better come in, level 3" called David who ran back and we left in the car.
Arrived at hospital about 10:15 and was put in a waiting room, contractions were about 5 mins apart and 30 seconds long, assessed and was told I was only 1cm but waters had gone. Given codeine and sent home.
On arrival at home (12:30 ish) I got in the bath and kept topping the hot water up for a good two hours, contractions were getting stronger now and at one point I was having 3 back to back with mere seconds in between.
David called triage and we went back in at 3pm.
Assessed again at 4pm, pain was bad now, still only 1cm but head had moved right down. Given Gas and Air and after another hour some diamorphine.
Diamorphine didn't work a great deal other than make me feel drunk so still using the gas and air I was reassessed at 8pm and given another dose of diamorphine still using G&A. Now only 2cm
At 10pm I was starting to breathe in G&A and yell out very loud moans!
Transferred to delivery suite at about 12/1am and anaesthetist called to do Epidural, more diamorphine given for the wait.
3 emergencies later and 2 hours and anasthetist came in, I managed to stay very still and after half an hour the epidural took effect but I still needed the G&A to take the edge off and stop the panic.
Assessed at 4am and was 9cm (pure joy at that news!)
5am, fully dialated but Midwife advised to hold off pushing until head had descended completely.
Started pushing at 6am on all fours kneeling backwards on the bed, only 4 contractions came in total and after 3, the baby was in distress, emergency button pressed. A contraction came and instinct took over, I pushed her out in one long breathless effort, I didn't care about pain, she was not staying in there scared (6:52am)
It was a bloodbath in the room so David was handed our little girl whilst they stripped me down enough to turn and hold her, both of us in floods if tears.
She was handed to me at about 7:15 weighing in at 7lb 2oz and we had some skin to skin time whilst the midwives struggled to deliver my placenta. Eventually I pushed that too.
I had apparently torn my own organic episiotomy so after some stitches I got showered and sent up to ward with my gorgeous daughter.
We're now home and I can honestly say life is now complete.
