Hi everyone,
I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant and I was told that around 12 weeks I will be put on aspirin because I'm overweight (and she briefly mentioned a DVT risk with me being overweight). I have had two healthy perfect pregnancies with no issues so this surprised me a little. Is this a normal thing? Are there any cons to taking aspirin every day? It feels a little strange! I was normal weights with my boys so this is new to me.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

Im very overweight and do take aspirin in pregnancy but its due to having a stillbirth through preeclampsia with my first. Never been mentioned in any of my pregnancys for weight though x

I’ve got it because of previous pre-eclampsia. When I had my booking in appt there were criteria for getting aspirin. Pre-eclampsia is an automatic criteria. Being overweight was on a separate list on my sheet and you needed two criteria from that list. Think it included family history of pre-e and also being 35 or older. My friend was put on it due to high BMI and blood pressure being slightly high.

That's interesting JoeyClare, I will ask about this when we next meet. I'm 30 years old, blood pressure was good, no history of pre-e... the only things they seemed concerned about was my weight and the fact my boys were big babies (9'11 and 9'11.5) but I just think I make big babies?! I had tests in those pregnancies and were fine. It's very confusing

It won’t do any harm, though less than ideal they haven’t explained the reasons to you properly! The prophylaxis for VTE in pregnancy is herparin injections not aspirin.

I’m taking it to prevent pre eclampsia due to low pappA on first trimester screening.

I was told to take it past pregnancy (bmi 35) but it wasn't explained why. When o saw my consultant i asked and she said to avoid high blood pressure and pre eclampsia but. My blood pressure was low so i never took it. This time bmi is same but i live in a different area and I've not been offered it. Im not even consultant led here! Strange how it differs xx
