I am 14 weeks pregnant and am the type of person that is always organised.

My questions is do you think it is ok to buy things like a pram and bedroom furniture for baby so early?

I have picked which ones I want and am worried that closer to the time, they might not be in stock or discontinued.

I know that some people think that these things shouldn't be kept in the house until much closer to the due date, even if still boxed.

What do you mums-to-be think?......Are you superstitious?......It is bad luck?......Am I being daft?...... What would/are you all doing?

Thanks xxx

 What ever makes you comfortable sweetie......
Me I don't mind.... I have lots of things, even got my cradle down from the loft to clean and varnish... it's sitting beside my bed waiting for attention.... :rotfl: and waiting and waiting... :rotfl:

First time round I bought things from around 20 weeks. I had the cot set up in mid December (she was due Feb) and I ended up having her on Jan 5th so luckily it was ready :D - I was going to keep the pram at my parents' house as I was superstitious about that, but I didn't even get a chance to buy it before the birth in the end
This time round, the cot is up the loft waiting to be set up a bit nearer the time, and the pram is in the hall closet still being used, so can't really be superstitious this time :D

Hi NIE,
Go for it! We're supposed to enjoy this trimester and what better way to do that than plan ahead for your baby. I still feel full of doubt even though lots of people have told me that an active baby present on the scan is such a good sign.
So go for it girl.
Enjoy.

My mother-in law visited today and was so excited when shopping (just looking) in Mothercare, woolworths, Adams and Babies r us. She was running around the shop shouting at me to look at this pram and that cot. The clothes were the worst. She kept picking up lovely outfits and buying them.

We are very grateful for her interest and help but I have passed that level of excitement and even though I still get excited I still have a lot of worries.

She is not in anyway superstitious, and is determined that I will be having a girl. xxx

We didn't want to buy anything until after the 20 week scan. However, my pregnancy was full of bad luck and complications, so I didn't want to cause any more bad luck for us. OH reasoned that we'd had so much bad luck without buying anything or doing any of the things that you're not suppose to do, that if something goes worng it won't be due to us buying a pushcahir or keeping it in the house.

I think he was right! It was so lovely going out and buying things for baby, it took our mind off all the complications.

Everything turned out well and baby Ben was born without any problems.

I wouldn't say it's too early at all... we're getting a Quinny pram and when my friend bought hers last year, she ordered it at 20 weeks and it just arrived before her due date... it had dirty wheels though so obviously used and they took it back... they didn't get a new one till she was a week overdue! That was with Corstorphine Pram Centre so I'm not going there now. I've checked with John Lewis and they've got them in stock with weekly deliveries but I want to order mine in the next few weeks to be safe. Same with the maxi-cosi.

We bought our Quinny pram, carrycot and Maxi-cosi car seat from a German buyer call 'safe your baby' and they arrived a week later. Cheapest around too.

I am not supersticious at all, in fact I'm a christian and I have learnt to put my faith in God no matter what happens. I have faith that I will have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby! as a matter of fact i've bought the travel system and a few other bits and pieces like the bath, etc. and I believe that things will be ok! I don't wanna start thinking the worst, it's my first baby and although I was quite worried at first, I want to enjoy every single minute of it and not worry too much! I really hope that you will not worry too much, I know it can be hard but I think that by worrying, we won't enjoy the pregnancy as much and studies show that too much anxiety can be passed onto the baby. Tell yourself that things will be fine!

its never too early, and i dont think having a pram or a cot or anythng set up early is going to influence bad luck! i had my crib set up from about 30weeks only because I had to get my dad to get it from the loft (it was mine when i was a baby :D ) ive had everythin set up since ive bought it all. i get so excited looking at it all. i think its better to get everything early and ready just incase u go in early or whatever and yeh thats true about things being discontinuted or the prices raising. thats one thing ive noticed since buying for baby, ALOT of things get discontinued etc so go for it:) get what u want when u c it! it makes things easier towards the end, u can relax knowing u have everything ready :) Xx

I say buy what you want, it's your money and baby-to-be and yes I am very superstitious!

However, I won't be buying anything until the 7th month appears, I can't be asked with all the clutter of things in the spare room, I'd just sit there and constantly go 'oooohhhh look in't this cute', I'll change that, my fell acan't be asked with it
