So I got my BFP yesterday, if I go by my last period I should be 5-6 weeks. But I have a funny feeling I could be 3 months or so. I went docs yesterday straight away and he's referred me to a midwife, does anyone know how long it might take for midwife to get into contact?
Also can they tell from blood test how far gone you actually are?
Or do you have to wait for scan for that?
And how soon do you think I'd be able to get a scan?
Sorry loads of questions, first timer :)

Look forward to sharing my journey with Al of you other mums to be :)

Hey!

My doctor put me straight in touch with the midwife so god knows... What makes you think you're already 3 months if you think you're 5/6 weeks?

They give you a dating scan if you really don't know how far along you are. Then you'll just get appointments and reminders for the remainder 30 odd weeks lol x

My midwife contacted me 3 days after my doctors appointment, I was told they would be in touch within a week. My first midwife appointment was then arranged for 2 weeks after she phoned. They can test your hcg levels from a blood test which would cetainly give an indicator of whether you are closer to 5 or 12 weeks and the midwife should be able to tell from checking the size of your uterus etc. If there is no reason for you to have a scan earlier your first scan will be around 12 weeks, so if the midwife thinks you are close to this I assume she would send you for a scan asap xx

Thanks for reply both of you,
Well I know sometimes people still have periods, and I've put on quite a bit of weight in the last month or so, and I've been saying for the last 3 periods this doesn't feel the same as normal. My boobies have gone huge too. But I had a period at beginning of November, so I don't know at all tbh.

Thank you for your answers, I'm just getting really impatient, I'm the sort of person that wants everything done yesterday lol! I hate not knowing anything!

Actually it wouldn't help much. HCG peaks at around 10 to 12 weeks then declines to a few thousand. So levels at 6/7 weeks can be very similar to levels 12 weeks+

Measuring your uterus/fundal height would be fairly accurate, then of course a scan. But if your last period was only 5 or 6 weeks ago they'll be reluctant to scan you too soon without good reason as it's rare to see much before 6/7 weeks and hard to accurately date the pregnancy before 9/10 weeks.

Congratulations!!

Be careful with the hcg tests. The doc thought I was only 3-4 weeks when I went to have pregnancy confirmed. I then started spotting so they tested my blood levels twice over the course of a week. They weren't going up so told me I was probably losing the baby. Sent me to the Epac centre where I was more like 6-7 weeks. It was the worst few days waiting for results etc!
You may be able to book an early scan but you prob have to pay. Did you tell your doc that you thought you were further along? They don't actually know when your lmp was. My friend has told them she's a lot further on!! Naughty I know

Haha, I considered doing the opposite and telling them I was 2/3 weeks less so that when the due date approached they didn't try to push early induction (they'd think it was early when it'd actually be my due date)... but then I worried if I measured 'big' they'd start stressing and pushing for growth scans & induction anyway.

Hehe! Naughty! I'll just speak to midwife when she calls x
