Hey girls

I'm 40+6 and have been for a sweep. I was so scared - I'm funny about vaginal exams - but I'm really desperate to avoid being induced so forced myself to have it done. In fairness it was no where near as bad as I anticipated, I'm really hoping it will do something but I have my doubts.

After dtd on Tuesday night I lost a golf ball size chuck of plug and lost some more yesterday so I was feeling positive things were going the right way but midwife said today although my cervix is nicely effaced and soft it's very much closed :(

Has anyone had a sweep that worked?

I'm booked into the hospital in newcastle next Friday for an induction but I really want to have my baby at the local hospital in the midwife led unit and avoid induction

Wish there was more I could do

I haven't personally but have a friend who went into labour 2/3 days after having a sweep.

It defo sounds like your body is moving things along with your plug going. Those cervixes are unpredictable things - so might have been closed today but might be more favourable tomorrow - and ready to go the next day :)! Good luck!!

I had three sweeps with my first and still had to be induced sorry :( that said I won't refuse them this time around, I believe if you're favourable they can work x

I went into labour with my youngest 3 hours after having a sweep.

Thanks girls, it's good to hear others experiences.

One more question if anyone can answer... My cervix was posterior and she pulled it forward, can it go back again or will it stay in the right position?

My best friend went into Labour hours after having one done.

No experience of sweeps but just wanted to say my cervix went from closed to 8cm in 5 hours when I was in labour so it doesn't necessarily mean nothing is going to happen any time soon! Fingers crossed for you :-)

I had a sweep on the Wednesday with my third. Started slow labour and had her early sat morning.

I will also add i also had the runs after having my sweep. Was so not fun but my midwife did say that was a sign that it had worked.

I had 3 sweeps and still went 11 days over and had to be induced! But I have heard of women going into labour hours after a sweep xx

Swept on Monday, waters went Tuesday, gave birth wednesday so yes for me I guess it did. However my labour needed induction with the drip as even though my waters naturally went, I couldn't dilate x

I had a sweep with my son and I had him the next day! As for the cervix moving back I don't know never had that done! I was 2 cm when I had the sweep and the midwife said baby had blonde hair! She was right!

ive been for 3 so far this pregnancy but none have been successful :( cervix too far back xxx
