Hello

I'm just back from hospital following pph caused by "retained products of conception" ie placenta or membrane.

Been a horrible time but starting to feel better. Just wondered if anyone had experienced it?

I woke up flooding the bed and passed a massive clot (looked like liver basically - sorry tmi). Ran to the toilet and it was like a murder scene. OH proceeded to start wretching (ideal in your hour of need).

Went back to bed and settled Eva to wake up again at 9 with same thing - lots of blood gushing and an orange size clot. OH said call mw who said get emergency gp appt. I kept passing out and regaining consciousness. GP freaked and next thing I'm in hospital with loads of people round me.

Had 2 doctors on either side trying to find a vein for drip for fluids.

Nurse pressed on tummy and another massive clot came out. Doctor did a smear type thing and checked me for more clots. Then another nurse gave me an internal for good measure. All absolute agony!

Bloods confirm I'm also anemic!

Next thing another doctor was advising me I needed surgery to remove clots and blood from my womb so started to hook me up with another drip this time in my hand.

Whisked into theater and given general anesthetic - came round and felt freezing I was convulsing. Oh had to ff Eva while I came to which I was gutted about but I was out of it at the time.

Kept drifting off as my bp was so low so had some toast and sweet tea. Amazing how much that helps!

Kept in for observations over night and given a cocktail of lovely strong painkillers. Had Eva in with me and, thankfully, she slept really well only up twice for feeding.

Got home at 3 next day and just to rest.

Anyway, just wanted to ask when I'll actually stop bleeding? I'm so tired :-( xxx

Poor you, you had a secondary pph, I had a primary one (so happened as I gave birth) I dont have any advice to give you im afraid but wanted to express my sympathy as it is a very scary thing!! I was aneamic for months afterwards, you have to look after yourself as I didnt and I think that made it worse (although how can you when you have a newborn??)

Thanks for your reply. It was scary at the time but starting to feel normal again thank goodness!

I didn't realise it could happen at birth too? Bloody hell that must have been awful!

Still find I'm bleeding quite heavily especially after bfing xx

I bled for a full 6 weeks after having H even tho they did give me a clear out when I had the bleed and I was breastfeeding at the time!! Bfing causes your womb to contract so will make the bleeding worse when you bf but it is good for your womb to contract swiftly so keep at it, just keep an eye on your blood loss although I think you have prob had your fair share of heammorage its worth checking if you think it is getting excessive!!

how scary for you to have that to happen you think the worst is over when you give birth and then something like that happens - sooo glad you are on the mend now plenty rest which i know isny easy with a newborn

as Mrs N said you need to look after yourself but i isny easy when you focus on newborn I managed to nap while Elise was napping yestersday but then forgot to eat till half 3 in the afternoon

hopefully ur bleeding wont last too long i still have the odd wee bit now but did lose 400ml during the birth and because i was already anaemic i ended up like urself even more anaemic xxx

Thank you :) It's just good to hear another experience. I'd heard of PPH but, to be honest, didn't have a clue what to expect.

Today the bleeding has been a lot lighter - even through the night with 2 feeds, it wasn't as gushy (sorry for tmi) so I'm guessing it's starting to subside.

Taking spatone every day to keep my iron count up as I'm still exhausted but then, that's a given with a 2 week old who has the appetite of a grown man

Thanks, hun. I know, you expect the birth to be it and then something else happens. And now I'm getting the cold. Woe is me! Lol

I'm trying to get some wee naps in and sync it with Eva. Even an hour can make a difference! Know what you mean about forgetting to eat - I can't even remember what day it is!

I think I lost 300ml at birth, according to the notes. I look anaemic even when I'm healthy so I look like a ghoul just now with big black eyes. Combine this with my leaky boobs, I'm quite a catch these days :D xxx

Oh my goodness! So sorry you've had such an horrendous time hun. Hope you are feeling much better now xx

I lost 1200ml at birth!!!! Very close to needing a transfusion but was very lucky and very shocked I'm not anaemic xx

Sounds awful!
I lost alot of blood after birth and collapsed in the bath in hospital. My blood levels kept dropping so I was kept in for 2 nights to get them up and then begged them to discharge me so that I could sleep!
I felt rough for about 2 weeks and I was on a high dose of iron tablets. I bled for weeks but the first week was the worst as I was losing small clots.
Rest and fluids was what I needed and once I realised that I started to feel better - just a half hour nap here and there followed by a pint of water!
Look after yourself x

I lost 1500ml of blood during the birth but they didnt give me a transfusion as they thought I cud recover quickly as was fit and healthy but wish I had pushed for it as I now read about women who lost significantly less who have transfusions so that they are fit and healthy for their newborn!! I was still aneamic at my 6 week check but the iron pills were making me constipated (TMI) so stopped them and I just eat iron rich foods!!
Hope you feel better soon hun!!

I'm getting there now - bleeding is much less too so starting to feel more like me again. Yay!

Thanks for the advice and nice messages :) xxx

Oh my gosh-you poor thing :( hope ur on the mend. I had quite a bleed in theatre too, think that's why I felt quite poorly immediately after daisy was born. But my iron levels recovered quick. Hope you do too. Xxxx

My iron levels were borderline for transfusion so they gave me iron tablets. I felt very weak for some time after and had to.be wheeled to.the postnatal as i couldnt get up cause i would feel.faint straight away

Tapatalking so cant see signatures
