When Leo was a new born I was totally shocked with how easy it was. He napped, ate, pooed and slept. I was really lucky that he was a totally chilled baby. But recently I'm finding things much tougher. Leo is on the go 24/7, I can't take my eyes off him. It doesn't help that we've been staying with the in laws for a few months and not only is the house totally un baby friendly but I feel suffocated by my mother in law. Leo's sleep has gone down the pan, he's waking up at least 3 times a night for feeds and his naps are erratic. Nappy changes are a huge battle as he will not lay still for a second and fights me all the way.

Don't get me wrong he is a really happy, cheeky amazing little boy, who I'm very proud of. I'm just hoping that it starts getting easier soon. X

All the time! I always say, it was easier when they were newborn. Also tough having babies who were good sleepers before and not anymore! I tell myself all the time that whatever Is getting on top of me is a phase and not forever after. I don't know how your managing with in laws!! :-(

I'm sure its sleeplessness nights that can bring on those feelings. My lg is only just getting there with sleep at 14months, and I've had lots and lots of meltdowns of not coping. Its hard hard hard being a mummy and thats when they ARE sleeping!
How long are you at the in laws?

My mum showed me this great technique for the nappy change where you lie baby across your lap, use an elbow to keep them in place. It takes a bit of practice but its good once you getbthe hang of it!

I think all mummy's go through this stage at one time or another, for me I had a tough 3-4 months when he was newborn, he was difficult to get to sleep and nap, would cry a lot and generally not be happy unless he was being walked about in his pram whilst or in the car whilst driving about. He would be ok in my arms as long as I was bouncing and walking him about. I eventually realised he was happier being moved and once he started rolling, sitting and crawling/standing and walking himself he was easy and has been easy ever since really!

But as mummy's we adapt and get used to things. I'm sure when things are a bit more baby friendly it will be easier on you and don't forget they go through phases of not liking things and then they get better! It's all phases!

We have nappy struggles also! Stanley is like a beast I can barely change him without getting in a fluster he's too strong!
He's also had a bad 2 months of sleeping after sleeping 12 hours he was waking up to 10x a night which has only just settled down in the past week.
He's also on the go from the minute he wakes up which is knackering.. I tend to go visit people so that I get a bit of a break!

Are you Inlaws helping out at all or just interfering? X

I found the new born days hard too. But I bet you are finding it hard without all the necessary baby proofing. My saviour has been being able to put gates up, so I know while Emma is in the lounge area shes safe. I just pop her on the floor with her toys and go about my day. Well until she starts climbing my legs

I know some people have started using pull up nappies to make things easier

This is why I love this website, it helps to know I'm not the only one. My in laws are lovely but I think we've just been here too long now (7months). We relocated back to the uk from abroad and it's been great having somewhere (free) to stay. They can't really help out due to ill health so I'm doing the cooking snd cleaning for all of us. Plus my mil is a terrible know it all. Hopefully it won't be much longer only another few weeks.

I really do think the sleepless nights are a lot of why I feel like this. I've been so impatient with Leo the last couple of nights, I feel like such a terrible mum. X

I had a very easy newborn, but things definitely got harder around the time she first became on the move for a few months. Then it chilled out for a year or so and got harder again now shes in the terrible twos! Its a hard time hun, be kind to yourself and remember it will pass x

Sleeping is so irratic right now that it's exhaustinh some days. Naps fine, sleeping at night is a mystery still which is so annoying as he was sleeping so well up until the end of November.

I know what you mean about nappy changes too. I find if I count though it makes him stop!!

I remember finding it difficult this time last year when LO was between nine and 12 months. I can't put my finger on it exactly, he had been ill and waking a lot in the night after always being fab around the Christmas and I think I just found it quite difficult entertaining him etc. I think at that stage they change relatively quickly and I was feeling like with being at work I couldn't keep up! I felt after a year things started getting easier, although god knows what will happen soon when baby number two arrives! I also think living with the in law's must be so tough!

it's definitely the age! my lo is 10m and you can't take your eyes off her, she's through the stair gate in a minute if it's open, and yesterday I turned around to find her standing on the coffee table, head on the table butt in the air! WTH! she fights feeding times, sometimes will not nap and then wants to go to bed at 5.30pm! She;s the cheekiest bubs I've had so far! She has learnt some signs and words already and is into everything, she's cruising round, climbing! arg......

Don't remember my last 2 being like this, they were a lot older when they did most of the things she is doing
