OH and I have been lucky enough to get a week in Lanzarote in the new year.

Cay will be just over a year old (like, a week or two over).

What will I need to take?
Any bottles he'll be having by then will be Cows milk, I think?
Will pasteurised full-fat milk be available?

Will he be eating like, proper meals by then?

I'm sure there's loads of stuff I haven't thought of but this is my main concern for now xx

Sorry, dont know much about this! They start weaning at 6 months so I assume they'll be on mostly solids at that age but I think they'll probably still having a couple of bottles of milk!? You'd need to find a way of sanitising them there I suppose.

I went to Lanzarote, although it was about 10 years ago! It was nice, gets quite windy but it still feels quite hot and I think the sand gets molten because it is darker (they say black sand but it didn't look black to me!)

Hope you have a nice time, it will be nice to go away. We're just going to brave the south coast of England next year and maybe get a ferry over to France depending on how things go

Cay's on like, puréed at the moment.
Lumpy, (and he'll take chunks of something like a banana, or whole blueberries), but still puréed.

I'm petrified of choking.

If I have to take formula, I'll have to figure out sterilising. If I can get cow juice out there, then bottles don't need sterilising.

We flew Cay over to N.I. for his Christening at three months, so we had a kinda"practise run" at a foreign holiday, lol :)

I've never heard that sand stuff, so that's interesting :) xx

About the sterilising, buy some Milton sterilising tablets and use the sink or a bowl or water - simple!

I just used boiling water and the sink to sterilise when we stayed away from home. You could always get a travel cold water steriliser if you are worried. The milton tablets I think make the bottles taste and smell terrible. I was also told you didnt need to sterilise over 12 months anyway. You can get milk there but personally id take formula if he is still taking it as you cant say for sure the methods of sterilising the milk etc will be to the same levels as here and you dont want upset tums and sickness. Ive travelled the world amd tge milk tastes different in every country. I say better safe than sorry xxx

We went to lanzarote in June when kaiden was 9 months old. We took jars and pouches of food with us because at that time I was like you and petrified of choking but while I was there we have him proper food as I felt more relaxed with everyone around us,
With sterilising I used the Milton tablets in the sink xx

Could be a good time to try him on cows milk?

They have same milk as us (different brands ) so it is fine.

If you take formula then take bottles and milton sterilising tablets - they works with cold water.

Where abouts are you going? We went to Playa Blanca a few years ago and loved it!

Some more helpful advice, thanks everyone :)

Honestly, I think he'd take to cows milk fine, my concern there was if I'd be able to get similar quality whilst over there.
My other option was formula for the week (he'll be on cows milk anyway at home), which I'd still sterilise for.

I'm going to spend the next couple of months doing my best to quit purée-ing, and start just letting him help himself, so hopefully by the time we go, he'll be able to have a plate of food like everyone else.
If not, I'll be packin the pouches.

Where abouts are we going?
Not the foggiest :/
About 20 minutes north up the coast from the airport... Teguise or something it's called xx

Costa Teguise!

I am not a fan of the Canaries (been loads over the years though as it is cheap and hot!)

Lanzarote was a lovely surprise though, really unexpected.

Enjoy

I'm just back from Tenerife with my 13 month old. Was brilliant. We found an Iceland supermarket so we got Cravendale milk. But the local shops have blue milk it's sterilised though. But he drank it. We took some Ella's Kitchen toddler meals. And bought weetabix for his breakfast. I took 2x bottles and just rinsed them out with hot bottled water and washing up liquid. We were all inclusive so there was plenty for him to eat, and try lots of new things. He had toasties, sandwiches soups for lunches.
The canaries are very touristy and always find English speaking places so you won't be stuck :)

Costa Tequise, Love it too & everything there is so easy to access, i love all Canaries, Fuerteventura is my Favourite.

I;ve never taken a child but milk seems to be fairly the same, But OH was very fussy though so wouldnt have cereal as he milk didn't taste right to him ( think it was all in his head ) - My tea always tasted fab, but I never drank it pure.

All spa's, Supermarkets pretty much sell British brands. I've seen a Iceland in the Canaries too but cant remember which one.

Ive been 6 times I think. Costa teguise is flat but puerto del carmen is hilly so its harder work with a buggy. You will get everything u need for a baby in supermarkets. The only thing is the foods not as good as back home if you use jars or pouches. As for milk I was buying cravendale as I switxhed her to cows before we went to tenerife last month. Was fine. As for sterilising, I took 2 bottles and simply put some milton tabs in and left till they were needed. Saved faffing with steeiliser etc. Wipes and nappies were expensive in tenerife. I took plenty xx

Y'all are brilliant! Cheers :D

That's settled my mind somewhat.
I'm thinking he's mostly gonna be in swim nappies through the day, but will take enough to be getting on with anyway.

The heads up about jars is a good one.
I whizz pretty much everything he eats at the minute, but leave it chunky. We haven't really got too far with the hand-held DIY feeding yet.
I think I'll probably end up taking some jars with me, enough for a meal a day, and fill him up on milk and things like melon that can be broken up small and placed in his mouth if need be.

Thank you so much ladies :D xx

Lanzarote one of the great places to visit in the canary island is one of my favorite and probably the most memorable one. I'm a heavy drinker and theres this one place in Lanzarote where they made the finest if not the greatest wine called bodegas, man that was very nice! But the main reason for my visit in Lanzarote is because of surfing. One of friends told me to go during the surfing season which is November-March and I did! And it didn't waste my time at all and money well spent. I almost forgot It's the most memorable place for me because this is here I finally met her! Happily married for 7 yrs now with one lovely daughter. I'll be returning here anytime soon that's for sure. thanks for bringing back good old memories with this lovely. Anyways hope this link could help you learn more about this wonderful island :) ~canaryislandsinfo,co,uk/lanzarote/
