does anyone else have this? just read it on my notes and remember the lady mentioning at my scan should I be worried ? don't want to google it as i panic easily.

Anterior placenta means a low lying placenta. Did they not discuss this with you at your 20 week scan? I have it and it has caused me alot of problems, but in 9 times out of 10 it just moves back up as you get bigger and it causes no problem. I was one of the unlucky 1% where it didn't move up and I was in hospital with bleeding - although I've been scanned today and thankfully it has started moving a little!

I'm suprised they've not spoken to you about it as you need to watch out for any bleeding and if you have any you need to ring your maternity hospital as it may mean you are losing your placenta which needs monitoring. Normally they book you in for another scan at around 32-36 weeks to check if the placenta has moved up.

It is nothing to worry about unless you start experiencing bleeding....like I say in 9 out of 10 cases it causes no problems, so hopefully you will be fine :) xxxx

I thought anterior placenta was just on the front wall of the uterus?

No, when she said it was anterior i said is this normal? and she said yes and i looked to my boyfriend and said 'wow im normal for once!' nothing else was said, and its only because ive just looked over my notes i wondered what it meant. When did you first experience bleeding? Should i arrange another scan with my midwife do you think? Im seeing her next monday, maybe i could mention it then?

Sorry have just checked and Knopk is right - anterior just means it is at the front of the uterus - the low lying thing is a separate thing altogether!! Sorry!! It's just I saw anterior on my notes today after my scan and assumed that meant low lying!! But mine must be both anterior and low lying!! They would definitely have told you if it was low lying as they would have booked you in for a scan. So yes, anterior just means it is towards the front and can mean you can't feel baby's kicks as strongly - nothing to worry about at all. Sorry for the confusion, blame my baby brain!! xxxx

Mines anterior and nobody's said anything to met. I only know because it's written in my notes! I think it's perfectly ok as long as it's not low lying like Poor Amanda's. It may also mean you won't feel kicks as hard as others might because the baby kicks the placenta instead! x

Anterior itself is not a problem its if its low lying at all it can cause proplems, though they would have told you if it was also low. mines anterior and they didnt mention it to me, i looked it up when i got home!

did find a chart somewhere that explainded them all, with terminology but cant find it now, but it just tells you where its fixed onto your womb, anterior = front, posterior = back, and then got a name for each side and all can be praevia (low lying)

so nothing to worry about! hope that helps!!!

i have a anterior placenta to, and it just means its at the front of your uterus! i can still feel baby, but im only feeling little pokes and rolling movements but i am only 14 + wks.

thanks for clearing this up everyone! i can feel her, not strong kicks yet but lots of movement all day long. so hopefully i will get to feel the kicks :)

Well mine is anterior apparantly, but although it was very late before I felt him kick (22 weeks), now he is a big boy he gives me massive kicks and punches that I can definitely feel!! xx

aw it just means its on the front! yours is prob at the top so you can still feel good movment,

ive got a low liying placenta like amanda but finders crossed it shifts its self up as i grow, x x x

I've got an anterior placenta and I mentioned it to my midwife today. It's nothing to worry about she said and I feel kicks and movements every day now. I'd also heard that it might not be as easy to hear the heartbeat, but my midwife just put the doppler on me and there it was!!! It's only if it's low lying like Amanda that there could be a problem.
