Hiya girls,

I had a d&c at 12 weeks (baby was 6-7) Monday and I’ve been given no aftercare advice. I was wondering if any of you could help?
Monday -Wed I had pain and heavy bleeding that eventually went away Wed night.
Thursday I felt great and all bleeding stopped
Friday morning I felt great and my boyfriend and I had sex. (I was given no advice about when this is safe but with my last mc the nurse said whenever I had stopped bleeding so I thought it would be the case here)

And now my problem. Friday night I started getting pains in my bum. I feel like I need to go the loo or pass gas constantly but it’s sheer agony to even try. Sitting down Friday night became painful due to pains in my bum and at one point I felt a gush and I had a heavy bleed. Since this I’ve been bleeding lightly again but the pain and need to go the loo is unbearable. I can’t tense at all. With my last mc I did have some pain in my bum but that aaa during the miscarriage, it wasn’t this bad or lasted this long.

Is this normal?

I hope you’re ok April. I was told after my d&c no sex for 2 weeks but this might differ hospital to hospital? I do know after a d&c the blessing can be quite heavy but I think as long as you aren’t soaking through a pad in an hour it’s ok. With my first d&c I had really bad pains in my bum too. Not sure why but the stopped after a day or so. Hopefully this is the case for you too x

Sorry you have gone through this. Hope you are recovering well hun. I was advised no sex for two weeks after my d&e to prevent infection and to ensure the os is closed. I didn't stop bleeding for a while anyway so didnt have sex for a bit. I didn't have pain in my bum but I was in bed with a catheter in so not sure I would have noticed. I was in pain though, your body has been through a lot. Take it easy and if you are worried ring gp, it is what they're there for xx

Hi April, i work in breast and gynae and we have ladies on our ward coming in for very much the same procedure as yourself. They should have advised you not to have intercourse for around 2 weeks, because as mentioned it runs the risk of infection, and also your body needs time to heal.
Also our lady parts are so fragile, it could just be some bruising or perhaps a nerve was hit during the procedure. I hope you are feeling better now though :) You could call your GP or give EGAU a call (if they have that department at your local hospital)
