Is it normal for baby to be attached to me every hour at the moment ??? Finding it very draining on my poor nipples :(.

I have an extremely sore nipple which I am using the cream on and a nipple shield. Baby gets a bit irate when latching on but does eventually. This nipple has almost a scab on making my nipple tight and thus difficult to get in the shield without baby sucking like mad. Any tips on healing nipples or easy ways to put the shields on ??

Everything is working well just the pain factor ATM that is difficult putting the barriers up to a successfully breast fed baby !!!

Thanks xx

That's what I'm using but is it possible to use too much ??!! How often should I apply it ??

Xx

I don't think you can apply too much - though it will get on all your bras! I applied it liberally after every feed - which was often! And applied it in between if I got chafing

I used the cream all the time and lots of it. It's brilliant stuff. Just a bugger to get off your bras.

Normal for them to feed so often. Will get easier. You are doing really well. Keep at it. :-)

Maybe try different positions, make sure latching is good (should feel no pain once the initial latch is achieved) and eat and drink lots. Very important. Xx

I've got one very sore and cracked nipple, I've found I have to do a rugby ball hold with him on that side or it's painful. I was at the point where I really had to build up to him latching that side but it's getting easier - nipple must be healing!! Perseverance is key I think xx

Your nipples WILL heal, I promise. Keep applying the ointment. Mine were bleeding and very sore for the first 1-2 weeks.

Just wondering why you have decided to use the nipple shields? These are great but can cause latching problems for baby when you decide to try baby directly to the nipple. It's also a little bit of a pain having to steralize them before each feed.

xx

I got told by my lactation consultant to use the smallest amount possible of Lasinoh and only put it in the affected area. It stays on for ages and can cause baby to slip if theres any left at next feed. Too much also stops the air getting to it.

Breast shells have been my saviour. I wish I knew about them ages ago. They let the air circulate and protect the nipple from rubbing. I use the avent ones

I slapped on the lansinoh both boobs every feed even if only using one side to feed, it will heal, i had breast pads in bra anyway so it was never too much or all over bra as pads were replaced every feed as my milk was full flow lets say!

Hang in there it gets easier, yes let baby feed when they want , they will find their own pattern and you will feel less like a dairy cow in time. Its so flexible as you can just feed when suits you too

It does get easier - promise. The nhs push breastfeeding, they tell you it's best and only hurts if your latch is wrong. What they don't tell you is the first two weeks or so is a killer. Your nipples hurt, scab and maybe bleed until they are use to being sucked on and your so tired because baby wants feeding every hr of the day and night. It's one of the hardest things I've ever done but also the best. Hang in their Hun, your doing fab!

Oh and you might already know this but i didn't till my HV told me but you can get the lanolin cream on perception so it's free :) I use to suffocate my nipples in the stuff!

Thanks for all your advice. The last few days gave been a killer. Think he's got colic. Screaming crying in the evenings which is just emotionally draining !!! He's on infacol and a slight improvement already. Just in shock he's woken for his first feed ... Last one was at 11pm .... Must be coz the heatings on he literally slept like a baby lol.

Xx
