partner has now had 3 sperm tests and waiting for the result of third next week. the first two came out totally different to each other but the common thread was the low number of abnormal sperm. they need to be at least 15% normal and the number was about 12/13% on one test and lower on the next.
Does anyone know what this means and what we can do about it? the doctor at the hospital said to do the third test but other than that she was useless.
have bought the Toni Weschler book and the Zita West one and taking vitamins. He is not drinking so much if at all and is a non smoker and totally healthy.
Does anyone know if the % of normal sperm/morphology is critical and how we can get the number up?
thanks!
Dreading the visit to hospital. She basically said last time that IVF would be the next step but we would not qualify for NHS funding anyway.

What do you haveto do to qualify for NHS funding for IVF? I thought everyone had a chance on it
Not much advice i can offer i'm afraid. My OH has had a couple of tests done, the first said that his count was low but not low enough to worry about. We're still waiting to hear about the second test. However he has started eating alot of pumpkin seeds for zinc and brazil nuts for selenium. These are sperm boosting nutrients and will hopefully increase his count. Infact the doctor said he had lazy sperm :rotfl:
However he only takes these two types of food because he's a strict veggie, your OH could eat seafood which is packed with zinc but i think Brazil nuts are the best choice for selenium.
Good luck

well the IVF qualification is because I had some already with my now ex husband who had very very low sperm count. We paid for it ourselves anyway so am mightily cross about this. I think I could kick up a stink about it but not sure how. also not mad keen on IVF as had cycle in 2005 which failed and then led (but don't think caused) the breakdown of marriage and subsequent divorce.
often wonder how the sperm 'problem' has happened twice, lightning striking twice? Is pretty galling and a bit depressing really.

If you haven't had IVF on the NHS then you can fight to have it now even although i do understand your concerns. Keep having those tests done and hassle the specialists as much as you can in giving you the info you need. Plus keep trying - don't stop and don't give up hope!! I know there are some women here who are also TTC with abnormal/morphology sperm problems, hopefully one of them will be online later and will respond to your thread and give you some good advice. Hang in there

Hi honey, just want to say that if his count is high then having a high % of abnormal forms is not necessarily a problem as the number of good sperm will far outweigh the number of bad.
