Hello

Just popped in from the 2nd Tri...hope you dont mind?

I have a question about how much I will be able to do when I am a big girl! At the moment I walk my dog every day for at least an hour. Since being pregnant I have taken it at a slower pace, walked when it is not too hot and drunk lots of water.

Lots of people have been saying to me "you wont be able to do that soon." In your experiences when do you think I will have to get a dog walker or is there a chance I might be able to walk my pooch right until the end?

Can you ladies manage an hour of walking at the moment?

I love walking her and want to do it for as long as possible :D

well just in the last week i have started to get really bad swelling in my ankles and feet, sometimes up my leg too. My hands get fat and swollen and tingly too. you might not be able to manage an hour but im sure walking your dog will be fine, exersice is good. You might not be able to go at your usual fast pace (i cant even walk the same as i used to!) but if your on maternity leave and taking it easy the rest of the time you should be fine!

Ive just been out with a friend shopping for a good 3-4 hours, we had some lunch and carried on shopping. i can feel that my feet are hot swollen and sore but i will just rest them now.

Hope this helps

An hour, i couldn't handle it from when I was in 1st tri let alone now, i think its personal it depends some days i feel like i can reall go for it, other days i feel too knackered and barely do anything...

im 33 weeks pregnant and imstill walking my very bouncy boxer dog twice a day, my mw told me that its good to get exercise it makes giving birth easier apparently.... plus i find it relaxing.. im not planning on stopping walking my pooch any time soon xxxx

Wish i could excercise, sometimes its easier said that done, I miss the gym so much and now when i try to even walk around a shopping centre for a few hours, in the evening feels like my butt and back are going to drop off lol!!

I walked home from the shops today, it was about a 45 minute walk. I also went walking on Tuesday. It's really good to keep active in third tri so long as you put your feet up enough too.

They say 45 mins of walking per day in the last few weeks is good for bringinning on labour, which trust me you'll be desperate to do, and helping LO to engage. It will also help with your fitness levels for labour. I am sure as long as you take it easy and rest enough you will be able to keep walking the do right up until you pop :D

I can manage a day of shopping but need 2 days to recover  .

It's the swollen ankles and feet and the spd that cause the problem. It's not so much while I'm doing the walking it's when I sit down afterwards in the evening that I get REALLY stiff. Also the hotter it is the less I want to do.

Thanks girls...you have given me hope! If it makes the birth easier too... Im not going to stop for anyone! :rotfl:

Just told the good news to my dog! :rotfl:

Thanks

I have PGP type pains and am much slower walking but I'm still walking my dog twice a day :) To be honest even if I find I get bad swelling towards the end, I'm just going to take the dog somewhere where I can let him off and throw a ball about for him. Luckily my dog is fairly lazy so doesn't seem to mind the slower pace that we walk at now :D

I can walk for an hour at this stage (31 weeks) although much more than that and my feet do start to hurt. I tend to walk the dog twice a day for half an hour each time, so long as he is getting some exercise I'm not too worried. I swim twice a week too -have found this very good exercise and I think it is helping keep me more mobile in general too.

If i didnt have the SPD then i would definately still be walking my dogs, OH does it all now so they dont suffer luckily,

Hopefully you wont get SPD so you will still be able to, if not have you got someone who could walk your dog for you? I know you mentioned a dog walker, thats what i would do if i didnt have anyone who could do it for me

I really miss walking mine, hope you can continue to walk yours

You may find that your only problem is you can't walk the dog for an hour without needing a wee 5 times :rotfl: .

When I was working as a driver there were never any public loos and there is nothing worse than a woman who is 27 weeks pregnant trying to squat behind a tree in the counrtyside without falling over  .

I am still walking my springer spaniel every day but her walks are getting shorter. It isn't really the distance that bothers me but the clambering over rocks. I can't risk slipping so I only walk her on the flat now which limits me a bit. But I love walking her in the mornings and won't give it up until those contractions start!

Best of luck x

I'm one of those who was walking a fair bit each day right up to a few hours before giving birth.

We live on a farm and I was walking to the bottom of the drive and back each day, usually twice. Its about a mile round trip. And uphill all the wya back.

I also would walk round the fields with the dogs also (we are talking 20 or so acres here). Sometimes we'd go out in the car and go walk the hills for a bit instead.

I was doing shopping, cleaning, laundry etc as normal. My size never stopped me from doing anything, I just had to do it a bit slower toward the end.

What I found uncomfortable were things like beding down to take something out of the oven or loading the washing machine. Or taking something out of the bottom drawer.

Walking was fine but I just took it a bit slower is all.

.

I have already had this problem  ... luckily nature provides lots of facilities (trees!)

My husband can walk her but he doesnt have a whole hour a day to do it. She is a two year old pointer so goes nutz if doesnt get walked! I will make sure she gets a walk even it means hiring a 'professional!'

As soon as i read this post i thought of sherlock lol, if you're already doing the exercise you should be ok to keep it up, unless of course you suffer with SPD or something like that.

Because im a lazy cow theres no way i could keep up walking now, we went to a national trust place at the weekend and i felt like i'd walked miles by the time we got back to the car even though it wasnt actually far.

Like it's been said above, if you keep it up you should be ok.

I still enjoy a bit of a walk, but the SPD can sometimes get in the way of that, and do find I walk a LOT slower now.

We dog sat for a week for my friend while she was on her hols and still managed to take the little pup to the park everyday, just spent a bit more time on the bench there too!! x

I still walk my dog 3 times aday I don't find the walking a problem, my dogs ball obsessed and wants to play ball for whole walk I find the bending down repeatedly a problem with reflux and heart burn so have got one of those chucker things and we're fine again. My DH wont walk my dog without me and we can't aford a professional walker I WILL be walking him until the day I give birth cause theres no way he's going with out!! I think having to do it for him helps to motivate me and keep me active!
