A clomid/scan/follow up question

Of course my mind is wandering... did I actually ovulate? Temps indicate I did, but still... maybe clomid didn't work this cycle after all. It would be good to have confirmation (I assume this is done with a scan after O date..?)

I read through other people's experiences on clomid, and they have several scans/bloods/ect to confirm O, whether there is in fact eggs in the follicles and what not. My nurse couldn't even tell me if mine were mature follicles or cysts. I'm not required to come in for another scan at any point. I'm not sure if this sits well with me? Is there anything else I can request?

I'm surprised they aren't scanning you more on your first cycle as they surely need to do this to establish if the dose and cycle days you are taking it are correct for you.

You can have follicle tracking done privately, it costs £150 per cycle at a private scanning place near me as I was considering having it done.

I'm waiting to be given clomid and the booklet they gave me about it says that I get scans every two days to check until ov and a blood test to confirm on the first cycle. I would say ask your consultant but if they are anything like mine they aren't open to questions and just want you to go away!

I wouldn't be able to afford private for a few months yet, but that's certainly something to consider. Should I be pushing for more tests and scans then do you think? They've told me to halve my dose for the following months as there were too many follicles (or cysts!!) - but aren't scanning me again to see if the new dosage is still working? It all seems very slap dash. Do you know if there's anything I can book off my own back with my GP? I know of 21 day bloods for O confirmation, but not sure of anything else.

I may call the clinic tomorrow. Maybe ask for a call back? I don't know what the bloody hell I'm saying or asking though. I didn't think this would leave me so unsure

I think with NHS you just get the clomid and its more 'wait and see' than private. Not helpful.

It varies where you are in the country with the NHS too so not everyone's experiences will be the same but generally they scan to check you're producing follicles and if you are then you're not scanned again. I do find it odd though that they didn't ask you to go in for bloods to check if you did ovulate in the end.

I know it's hard not be disappointed but please try to remember that couples without fertility issues take 12months on average to fall pregnant. Assuming you ovulated this month that still means you have a few months to go before you're near "average" statistics for falling - it's really quite rare for a couple to fall on their first try.

I think you should question it, at my clinic you had to have a follicle check every month in case of multiples, also they did day 21 bloods( after the 2nd dose) to check I had ovulated on the clomid in case the dose was not right. I found the clomid thing really tough because it seemed that even though everything was right, I.e timings, ovulation etc we still did not become pregnant. The more you get your hopes up the harder the fall... I think getting pregnant is pure luck! However clomid does increase your chances so it is worth trying just try not to expect too much which is what I found so hard as I expected to get pregnant on it. Now I try to just not think either way and take a day at a time! Easier said than done!
