8 week scan - what to expect?

I've booked myself in for an early scan and I'll be 8+2.

What can I expect to see?
Will it be an internal or external scan?

Hi, how exciting! They'll probably try abdominal first and if they get a clear shot that will be that. Otherwise it'll be internal if you're ok with it. They had to do my early scan as internal because baby was being difficult, it was curled right up in the left corner of my uterus where it was hard to measure abdominally.

As for what you'll see.. at 8 weeks it should look something like a gummy bear. You should also see a floaty circle near it, that'll be the yolk sac. good luck!
