Think my wrasse fish is dying/already dead.

He managed to jump into the filter bit if the tank last night and we only found out this morning cause i said how it had been hiding a while so opened the tank up.

Then the filter wasn't working properly.

And because we've been in and out the tank loads trying to fix the motor thing we've been stressing him out, and the waters just fked now, I bet all the oxygen levels etc are all wrong. Anyway because we were clearing out the crap from the filter there's loads of crap in the water. He was trying to jump out of the water before making me worry there's not enough oxygen in there, and hes really stripey which means stressed out loads, they suffer badly from stress and we've been reading up on stories where wrasses jump into filters and from stress they die a few hours later :,( I dunno how long he was trapped for and the gap for him to jump through is tiny. Anyway before we went to bed oh said 'ive think he's dying' his stripes were really bold and he was just lay on a rock barely moving :,(

I know some of you may think its only a fish but hes beautiful, bright pink with yellow tips on his fins and weve not had him long.

I just feel really down and don't know why i bother buying pets as something always goes wrong.

I've had a beardie that died cause the room it was in at mils house was too cold
I had a baby snake that I bought for oh and when he went away for a week it died on me for no reason.
I had a dog that we had to give away cause she hated charlie.
And now I can't even look after a fish :(

I don't know how Charlie's survived this long to be honest and how this nect baby will cope, why can't I look after anything??? :l

Sorry for my rant, just on a massive stress and downer now :and feel helpless x

Dont blame yourself hun you weren't to know and couldn't have prevented it getting in there

Hope it doesnt die :(

Xx

Awww, Im the same when any of our fish are ill or die, they are so delicate and sensitive and its nothing we do wrong. I cried when our little aquatic frog died while I was pregnant, think he got trapped near the heater and burnt himself :( I felt so guilty. Maybe your fish will pull through you never know x

Aw sorry hun I've only just seen this :(

How is the lil fishy today?

X

I thought he was dead this morning but the water seemed clear and was warm. He was really white with only a few pink stripes and lying on the bottom of the tank, but seen his gills going quite quickly. We gave him some food and he ate bits of it and seemed to regain colour, and has been hiding behind rocks so we put a blanket over the tank. I've just woke up from a big nap and he's still hiding so were not out of the woods yet, but oh has properly fixed the filter and said it was something atupid and easily fixed. Hope he gets better I feel mean on him. Apparently he's happy when his top fin goes up so we shall see later.

Thanks for your replies girlies :) x

I hope he gets better soon! I think fish are really difficult to keep, I've had loads dying on me although I followed all the advice on how to care for them properly. We've only got one goldfish left now, whose been with us for quite a few years - a survivor, obviously!

i kill fish, literally i always manage to kill them somehow, either i forget them, or they just die anyway, same with birds but i can keep hamsters alive til 4 or 5 years old easily lol. some animals need way lots of attention and love it when you are around them like rats and some thrive on neglect like hamsters lol. i hope your fish pulls thru.

I've kept tropical fish for 5 years now.
I've learnt a lot of harsh lessons.
Now I keep barbs, mainly tiger barbs. I defy anyone to kill a tiger barb, they are near invinsible!
I originally had angels, tetras and silver dollars - all gorgeous but not very hardy!
Chose your fish wisely, any good fish centre will be able to tell you the most hardy fish.
I also check my water regularly, I have a test kit that I use weekly x

Good advise. never buy fish from pets at home they always have white spot. We keep mollies and guppies more than anything I cried when a Molly id had for a year died, she survived the tank breaking and everything then got stuck behind the heaters.

Hope the lil fishy pulls thro!

Has anybody has a red tail shark? Do you not think they are evil? I had a silver shark and the red tail one murdered it! Along with every other fish in the tank! I hated that fish with a passion! Ended up getting rid of it and giving it my dad, he hated it too eventually! Still going strong at 10years old too! X

Hope he's ok hun. My old goldfish was virtually indestructable, I won him at a fair and drove all the way home from Southampton with him hanging off the rear view mirror lol. It's hamsters I'm bad with, I managed to find the only hamster on this planet with a wood allergy  his hair fell out and he looked like a scrotum :( my poor little Hercules

Lol sorry BB I don't mean to be rude but that really made me chuckle!!!

Poor lil hamster lol x

Lmao a scrotum, poor thing! We've been out all day and come back and he's loads better :) still a bit stripey but usually is when were sat in the room :) and we've put clean water in. Bloody hard work fish! My auntie got 1 from the fair about 12 years back only died this year it was bloody massive, like a guinea pig in a bowl of water lol x

Awww, glad the fish seems a bit better. Hats off to you, I have the utmost respect for folk who keep tropical fish. They are probably one of the most high maintenance animals you can have lol

We had a tank when we first got together, I found it really difficult to get it just right.

We had angels, tetras and guppies mainly. But we were forever replacing them. And then one of the angel fish just decided to attack anything we put in the tank so we ended up with only one fish in there in the end. Who preceded to live for like a million years lol

Glad he's improving, sounds promising. We always have trouble with fighter fish, so pretty but never seem to last very long. I once had one and 2 females that turned out to be short tailed males, they ended up killing the long tailed one poor thing I separated him but it was too late he died :( we've got a ruby shark he's my oldest fish and I love him, he's about 5 now!

Ha, I do like him but he always hides he's pretty crap when I'm trying to show people, the woman didn't say much about him in the shop just at how pretty and unusual he was and that she knew he'd get snapped up. We have a gobi in there too and hes a right greedy sod, put food in before and we give them frozen cubes of brine shrimp and he was trying to drag the whole thing to his little hidey hole. They're the only 2 we have at the min as together they came up to about 50 quid! Apart from crabs and a snail with googly eyes :). I knew they were harder to have with the water etc but jeez didn't know mine was so stressy, its worse than me! And I've got more to be stressed about imo, I might let the fish have Charlie for the day lol x

wow sounds like a marine tank, tropical ones are hard enough but marine setups are almost impossible in my realm of understanding lol. id have no chance of making one of those work

I would cut off my arm, and possibly a leg, to own a marine tank  x

They're not bad, you just have to test the water each week or so and get special ro saltwater from a fish place.. we've loads of crabs n a snail to eat the algi but there's still loads on the rocks. I think its a marine tank. We got ours off gumtree....think oh paid about 75 for it. I don't know the measurements but its big enough, not a really long one though and it came with cabinet and nets etc. I thought oh knew more about the filter bit but not much more than me til he did loads of research last night. In a panic I posted a question on yahoo answers and some smartarse replied 'oh this is why I ALWAYS have a back up with my equipment' geeee thanks for the help -_- but we didn't even think only had it around 3 weeks x

Yeah, you could get a nemo :)

And an anemone lol.

Sounds like hard work to me though, haha. I like my pets low maintenance
