Our little boy has been so unsettled today. He woke up at 5.30 this morning at 5.30 and has only slept for about an hour today. He is doing alot of grunting and pulling his knees up to his chest. Just won't go down for a sleep. Any advice greatly received! X

Ahh, poor little thing!

If he is pulling his legs up, he might be a little windy?

Yes. He hasn't pooed since yesterday so wondering if he is constipated x

My daughter is awful during the day. Sleeps well at night but is so windy and stiff during the day. She too only gets about an hour in during the day and WILL NOT nap in her crib!

Sorry, no advice, but understand your frustration.

Aww poor little man. Since lily's been on formula she doesn't poo daily but sometimes goes a couple of times a day. My hv said try some cooled boiled water if she's consipated so maybe try that to see if it helps hun. Xxx

My mw said not pooing everyday is nothing to worry about, unless poo comes out harder than normal.

Do you wind him after food? Our little man gets gassy and fussy...I've not mastered winding yet, but am getting there. He pulls his legs up when gassy.

I find the best way to wind with lily is keep her sitting up straight and not letting her curl up and slowly rocking her back and forth really help. Patting her back doesn't work at all where as with my son it did. Xxx

Caseysmummy, I've tried that (on your advice before!), but it doesn't seem to work as he is a bit fidgety.

Although they do say that BF babies don't get as much wind as FF babies.

Also, wishing, I've used infacol. Seemed to help with gas.

Try infacol and rubbing his tummy in a gentle circular motion clockwise.

My baby had colic and spent a lot of time pulling up his knees as his bowel was underdeveloped

Also try moving his legs like he's on a bicycle, it helps move things along. Also gripe waer is fab for gas!

I'm fortunately in that my daughter has no problem burping, she just always seems stiff so there must be more in there or she's struggling with something else! Looking forward to the 12 week mark when everything settles down.

I used to find traditional winding methods didn't work with all my children- the best method I found was to sit them upright on your lap - and then support their top half (and head in younger babies) with both hands and gently rotated them at the waist from side to side just slightly. and straighten them up rather than allowing them to curl or hunch over.

Hope you got him settled.

My five week old has random days where he literally won't sleep at all even in the car. Then the next day he'll be flat out asleep most of it.

I've found a bath works wonders for chilling him out. I go in the big bath with him so he gets some skin to skin too.
