Hi ladies! Just found out I'm pregnant. I'm still early (4 weeks). The problem is we're under offer on our house and will be moving to a different county but we can't put an offer in until our own missives are cleared, and then would need to wait for new missives to clear before we could move in and register with a GP. We have to move out late June if all goes well.

I called my local midwifery service who said there's no point in me making any appointments with them due to the move but when I called the new health board service they said I can't make any appointments until I'm registered with the new GP but "must" see me before 10 weeks (which is unlikely to be possible due to house situation). Fair enough but I'm worried about missing any important tests and checks. This is my first pregnancy and neither midwifery service was forthcoming about what actual tests and checks are required. Can anyone shed some light on what test, scans and checks there should be and when so I know if anything can wait or not?

Thanks so much for your help!

Congratulations on the pregnancy! Where are you moving to as guidelines in different countries can vary quite a lot as they already do within the country. At first bloods they check iron, blood group, anti bodies for rubella and they do the bloods along with scan to calculate the risk for downs and two other things. And the last thing is the only thing that has to be done before 14? Weeks but you don't have to have that done.

I found out l was pregnant at 4 weeks. I live in liverpool. My gp told me to do a self referral to the womens hospital. The earliest 'booking in appointment' was the 12/5 so i took that, but i feel like i'm in a similar situation stuck with no healthcare for 4 weeks because the gp has referred me and the womens hasnt accepted me yet. During this time l've been quiet ill and told will be my first day of 3 weeks off work due to being sick. Ive just used the 111 number and they have been very good at getting me into walk in appointments and the general hospital at one point. So i would try to get everything sorted with the house, book in with your local service and dont tell them about the move if they have used that as a reason to withhold care from you. Then when you move register with a local gp and go from there. Call 111 for advice if youre stuck for care like l was. They dont seem to be in a rush to get you into prenatal care i have noticed. This is my first baby too, so i guess i find out what is in store appointment wise on friday! Congrats and all the best to you.

Thanks! I'm in Scotland and just moving within Scotland. Thanks for the info, I already know my blood group and that I'm vaccinated against Rubella so I suppose its more the things like screening for downs and the ultrasound. I really hope I'll be able to register with new GP by 14 weeks!

Thank you so much and I'm sorry you were in the same boat! Unfortunately I already told my local service about my move when she was trying to book the 12 week appointment then she basically told me to get lost. She took all my details so I'm worried now they'll be aware I'm moving.

I'm feeling so awful too. I already had to take last week off work. Will certainly try the 111 number - thanks!

If you know your blood type that's a good thing. Just be aware if you are rhesus negative you may need a few extra jabs. I'm not 100% sure as I'm positive but I'm sure I got told that lol.

You should also have to fill in a foym about your medical history and your immediate family's medical history so they can assess your risk factor. It got determined for me I was high risk at my 6 week appointment so I needed extra care and extra consultant appointments too. X x I would phone back and say I know I'm planning on moving but nothing is set in stone and I'm concerned I may not get a booking in appointment or can you at least give me some advice on the usual protocol as I don't know how these things work!

(I'm not in Scotland though so it may be different up there)

Hi when you said you called the local midwifery service, do you mean the central booking line?

I could see why it would confuse the local team perhaps but not the central booking line as they should be used to this issue? Also, you need to get your 12 week scan booked asap so they have an appointment available for you.

I'd call the central booking line again as it may just have been your luck with who you spoke to. If it wasn't then you called first time and need the number then let me know x

Hi, this sounds like a terrible attitude from your current local area. I'm on my third pregnancy but with both of my previous babies I actually change hospital midway through. With my first baby I just changed hospital and not local authority but with my second I changed to a whole new area. They have a duty to look after you. I think you need to demand your initial booking appointment because you have no idea when you will be moving and should tell them that, you need your 12 week scan and it's possible that you might have not moved before then. They can easily transfer you to your new area after that.

In terms of moving, why do you need to wait for missives to clear before you can make an offer? I'm in Scotland too and moved 18 months ago, missives on our sale weren't concluded until the day before we moved into our new place! There was nothing to stop us making an offer. You should be able to make an offer without missives concluding but your solicitors obviously can't conclude missives on a purchase until the sale ones are concluded x

Belfa - it was the local line for Edinburgh. I did call my new county afterwards and they were much nicer but essentially said they couldn't do anything until I was registered with a GP there. Do you have the number for the central booking line?

Rose83 - Apparently we can only make a conditional offer on a new property and our estate agent has basically told us not to because no one usually accepts them (apparently). We've not found the right place yet though, so after this weekend of viewings we might just make a conditional offer anyway!

That's weird we never had anything like that, and that's me having bought and sold three times too, but maybe they are changing things a bit because of how fast property is moving in some areas. It was definitely a bit nail biting to be moving at 6 months pregnant, two weeks before Christmas and still be waiting on missives concluding!

As far as I know 'central booking line' is just what the booking line is called in each area - so you'd be right in what you were told that without a GP in your new area they won't be able to do anything. You'll need to make your current area book you in and don't take any of their rubbish, can't believe they tried to just palm you off! Some women need to be seen right away - eg I knew my dates with this third pregnancy and although I hadn't had a period for 40 days I knew when I ovulated because it happened a few days after I had sex and as I was breast feeding wasn't expecting it so this baby was not planned! But the GP insisted I went for an early scan to date me just in case I was further along than I thought (I knew it wasn't possible but they can't miss the 12 week scan period for dating and nuchal screening etc so had to be sure) x

I would honestly just call your current GP and just not mention the move at all. Act as though you're staying put for now and change as and when you actually move. That's what I'd do anyway. Congratulations on your pregnancy xx
