Hi,

I am 7 weeks pregnant with my first.

Yesterday I had a small amount of brown discharge and very mild cramps. I called my GP and he advised to call the early pregnancy unit and leave a message (it was after hours) and they’d call me back today to get me in for a scan today.

This morning when I got up and went to the toilet there was some blood. THe early pregnancy unit opens at 8am so I called as soon as it was 8. It took an hour to get through it just kept ringing out, I also left another voicemail.

They hadn’t listened to the messages yet but I was told I shouldn’t have left a
Message as it’s for gps or midwives to leave a message to refer patients...!

They also won’t see me until next week to do a scan. As you can appreciate Im so worried. They are calling me this afternoon to arrange an appointment when they listen to the voicemails. The lady I spoke to said to monitor the blood loss and if it gets worse tell her when she calls me this afternoon. She stressed that twice - to wait until she calls me.

I appreciate I am not the only person who would be ringing them but hey know it’s my first and I thought blood loss would be serious enough to be seen quickly? I could understand if it was just the brown discharge and they would hold off but I’m actually losing blood and in a total panic now. I haven’t had my booking in appointment with the midwife yet so I can’t even ring them to get guidance.

Since finding out I’m pregnant I’ve been quite surprised how little help there is.

Am I doing the right thing by just waiting for them to call me back? I know if I am miscarrying there is nothing they can do but I can’t spend between now and sometime next week waiting for an appointment to not know 🙁

If you are really concerned pop in to your local hospital and see if they can help you! It really is hard as before 12 weeks it’s like nobody wants to know. How are you feeling now? Has the bleeding eased off? Xx

That’s exactly how it feels, when I found out that I was pregnant I didn’t have a clue what to do. I guessed booking an appointment with my doctor was the logical thing to do. I went along to the appointment and got looked out like I had 2 heads for going! She said I should have just called and booked in with the midwife for my first appointment - how was I supposed to know this! The number she gave me to ring I have looked up since and there’s no way I would have discovered it myself!
The bleeding has eased off now and pretty much stopped, I’ve hust had a call from the early pregnancy unit and they can fit me in tomorrow morning as they have had a cancellation, so fingers crossed everything is okay.

I had bleeding with my daughter, don't stress too much specially if it's stopped.
Mexico is right, they don't really care until the second trimester. The epu is always busy everywhere! I also found that Drs/midwives expected me to know what I'm meant to be doing even though Id never done it before. I'm on my second and still not a clue I just go with It aha.
Hope all goes well at your scan tomorrow. X

Hope everything goes well for you tomorrow. It's so hard in the beginning when you don't really have any support. Because a miscarriage in the first trimester isn't a medical emergency they just expect you to stay at home and get on with it. They don't realise that there's so much more to it than just physical wellbeing! At the same time though, it must be difficult at their end with overstretched nhs services everywhere. It's a good thing that your bleeding has stopped, so hopefully everything will be okay. Fingers crossed! Xx

Hope it all goes ok tomorrow! Let us know how you get on. Fingers crossed everything is fine xx

I had such great suport from my local hospital. I was advised to go to a&e as I had significant blood loss and cramping around 5ish weeks we went late one night got refered to the gynae ward where I met with a doctor answered some questions had an examination and refered for a scan a couple days later. I was scheduled to have another scan 3 weeks later and stop the bleeding persisted The epu got me in straight away and all was fine. This continues up until 10 weeks x

Hope everything was okay at your scan x

Glad everything is okay. Congratulations xx

Glad it turned out OK. I had the same and paid for a private scan - healthy baby with a heartbeat last Wednesday. Had more brown spotting since, but an trying not to worry. I'd have a scan every day just to check if we could afford it lol!!!
