Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help with any suggestion,

I am still breast feeding my 16 month old, and so far it has been great after a diffiuclt start. My LB still loves feeding and if I'm with him will have short feeds several times during the day and once or twice at night, which I am fine with as we co-sleep. However, a couple of weeks ago he started to get loads of new teeth, including his back molars. He hasn't been biting but the new teeth have rubbed the skin in one spot on one nipple, I just strated putting lansinoh on and thought it would heal. Its now two weeks later and it is so sore and is has grown into a wound and got quite deep.

It is really painful to feed him , so I stopped and thought I would let it heal but that side is getting really full and expressing is just not working, and I have had mastitius a few times before so really don't want it again!

I'm not sure what to do - also lb is going crazy wanting to feed from his favourite side!

Help!

Hayley

I'd suggest going to the doctors and checking the wound out. Maybe they can give you something to help it heal. Sorry not sure what else to suggest xxx

Nipple shield? I've never used one but my friend swears by hers...

Ooh sounds painful Hayley :-/ Hope you managed to get it sorted. My lg is 14 months and I am still bf. She sounds a lot like your lo, has a few short bf during the day and 2 or 3 during the night. Some nights though when she's teething or a bit restless it can seem like she is feeding continuously all night !! I love bf her so have no problems with it at the moment but am wondering how difficult it is going to be to wean her off as she seems to need it so much for comfort xx

I had a simmilar problem at about 10 months although it didn't get as bad. I found the problem was that LO liked to use a shallow comfort suckafter she finished with real drinking. A propper latch shouldn't cause that problem so work on getting her to latch better. Sometimes they get lazy or new teeth change the way their mouth feels so they have to relearn their latch. if you google it you'll find lots of info about teaching a toddler to latch. I also found limiting the length of feeds and making them slightly less ofter while it healed helped.
