i know its early days but i had my booking appointment with the midwife here on island and as this will be my first baby off the mainland we went through how it works.
it turns out that as my son was so premature and i broke my back last year they dont wnt me to have baby here as im too high risk and they only have a midwife here and no access to help or even pain relief other than gas and air.
the problem there is that if i am to give birth on mainland i have to travel for every appontment scan etc which is a 5 hour ferry then a 3 hour drive and means kennelling the dogs, getting a babystter and OH taking time off work. they also state that to give birth on the mainland i need to leave the island before week 38 and fund a place to stay etc for us all untill baby comes. its rediculous. teamed with the worry of another prem baby on an islnd that cant deal with that.
