:wave:Hiya every1, today i went to the doctors to get a review on my overactive thyroid so that i could get a repeat perscription of my medication but when i told him i was pregnant he looked at me funny and said i shouldnt be on the medication that im on whilst pregnant BUT hes not sure!. so he typed a letter to my speacialist at the hospital and faxed it to him and said i might not get a phone call for another 3 weeks and i went away with no medication. so now iv just looked on the thyroid website and that says if youve been on the medication before you concieved you should NOT STOP taking the medication. my doctor also said taking the medication while preg can cause risks but also suddenly stop taking it could cause risks aswell. now im worried!! and i feel like ringing the hospital up 2moro and askin my speacialist myself instead of waiting up to 3 weeks :shakehead:. im not happy at all ,as the doctor should know what to do, not make me wait 3 weeks when that could be putting my pregnancy at risk. what does every1 else think and what would u do?? :eh:

Hi hun, I've been overactive as well so know a fair bit about this :)

What meds are you on? There are some meds that shouldn't be taken during pregnancy. But I do agree with you on stopping the meds. It's even more vital to get your thyroid stabilised when pregnant.

I was referred to the hospital as soon as I booked in at 4 weeks and was seen at the hospital at 6 weeks due to the thyroid alone. The endochronologist monitored my thyroid when pg not my GP.

Any questions just shout :)

hiya i am on 5mg of carbimazole a day. was you on that? x

You'd be better on the Propylthiouracil (PTU) as carbimazole isn't to be used in pg so he's right. He should have changed you to the PTU though I'd have thought though

I'll just add hun 5mg is a very low dose so your pregnancy will be fine :) but don't be surprised if they change to the PTU anyway

i would either ring your gp with the advice you ave been given or ring the hospital it may be low risk to your pregnacy but i wouldnt want to take the chance and they may sort it out for you quicker if you ring them directly hope this helps x

I think it's awful that your doctor didn't find out exactly what you should be on while you were there instead of making you wait weeks! I hope they sort themselves out and get you on the right medication soon
