I popped into work yesterday (I work in a GP surgery) and was talking to on of the GP's about Ja. I said that he wasn't crawling yet and he said well at 8 months he should be crawling by now! I don't think this is true at all as all babies are different and learn things at different speeds but I can't stop thinking about it! I mean, he's a GP, he should know shouldn't he?! :?

So my question is... how old was your baby when s/he started crawling?

Lovella is almost 10 months and still doesnt crawl. Some babies crawl very very early, some babies will only ever "shuffle" and some babies never crawl at all. Im not in the slightest bit worried :) Lovella rolls everywhere and turns herself round.. she just doesnt bend her legs and crawl.

Some babies just start walking one day and skip the whole process :) Unless you have other reasons to question your babies development, i really wouldnt worry about him not crawling  xx

Definitely agree with Carly here. I never crawled as a baby and neither did my OH. My DD is showing no desire to crawl and I'm not bothered if she skips it :)

just under 8 months , had been going backwards since 7 , really wouldnt worry hun , leland doesnt do half the things other peeps babes do , he doesnt even wave yet !

Galen started to commando crawl recently. So around 5 months for him. A bit before. He only goes in circles atm and a bit forward but is getting better every day. Most of the time now though he spends trying to get his tummy up and his knees and arms supporting his weight as he wants to baby crawl properly. Knows what he has to do, just hasn't quite got the strength as yet to manage. But he is very close.

Every baby is different. I'd not worry.

I think DD finally crawled properly when she was 11 months. She just wasn't that bothered about moving that far from where she was! She didn't really crawl for that long either cos once she learnt to walk (about 14 months) that was it!

Jack was 11 months I think, before that he started commando crawling and before that he just olled everywhere he needed to go  I think he was so good at rollinh places he just didn't see the need for crawling. All babies are different. Jack didn't start pulling himself up to stand until 12 months and in past month has just started cruising. Don't worry

connor started commando crawling at 5 months, has been proper crawling for a week or so and now walks round with his vtech pushalong. BUT he doesn't clap, doesn't wave, doesn't sign back to me, doesn't say 'mama' etc...

my brother never crawled at all and didn't walk til he was 2!

all babies are different and you really shouldn't be concerned; it frustrates me when medical professionals say things like that as it makes us mummies worry unnecessarily.

we deffo have walkers not talkers dont we hun !

Jam was crawlin at 8mths, walkin at 11mths, bein a monster at 12mths

luke crawled when he was 18 months!! :D

he walked when he was 12 months but confidently at 15 months, he never learnt to crawl til well after he walked, i never crawled either went straight to walking.

crawling is not a milestone cos not all babies do it. your GP is wrong and i hate the way people put pressure on you and make you worry like that especially so called professionals.

Sorry he/she made you feel like this hun

pfft how stupid is that. id say way over 50% of babies cant crawl at 8months. it even says everywhere not to expect a baby to be able to sit up totally unaided and steady until they are 9 months. load of rubbish. kyrans no where near crawling yet hun so dont worry. i am definitely not worried in the slightest.

mine both crawled at around 7 months but i know other lo's who didnt crawl til later on so i wouldnt worry. once they are running around being little terrors youd love the days back where you could put them down and they didnt move.lol

Awwww thanks for all your replies ladies  I feel much better now!

To be honest, I can't believe he said it  I should have know better.... what does he know??? He's only a GP!

Charlie crawled at 6 months tho my friend son is 8 months and he can't crawl and is only just getting the hang of rolling over, they're all different and I really wouldnt worry

LOL yup - too interested in exploring the world. connor's all too aware that he can communicate through crying and yelling

As rusks said, they don't even count crawling as a developmental milestone anymore because babies are so different with it. James crawled at about 8 months, one of his friends was crawling at 6 and one still isn't showing any interest at 10! wouldn't worry about it unless there seem to be any other issues. James is also great at clapping but has never waved. If babies were all the same it would be v dull (and the forum would be v quiet!).

Lydia crawled at 8 months

alex has never crawled. He's a bum shuffler. He can't even stand up yet and he's 14 months! (well he can if you pull him to his feet, but he can't pull himself up)
