Hi ladies,

I just found out my nephew has worms, my sister hasn’t been telling anyone because she’s too embarrassed!

I spent the day with them at the weekend, obviously didn’t know so couldn’t take extra precautions (or avoided seeing them completely).

I know, they take a few weeks to hatch so I won’t know if I have them but I’m freaking out! I can’t find out much information online, I’m only 7w5d, is it dangerous to the baby and can they treat it if I’m pregnant?!?!

Hi sugar.

I don’t have personal experience but my friends son got them when she was about 12 weeks pregnant. The whole house had to be treated as a preventative measure but the pharmacy wouldn’t give her anything. They said to go to her GP if she displayed symptoms and they’d look at the pros and cons of giving her treatment. Thankfully she didn’t have it!

It can so easily be spread if your nephews hand hygiene isn’t great. But unfortunately it’ll be a waiting game for you.

I’ve had a read online and it doesn’t look like there’s any threat with having worms in pregnancy (it seems lots of women on other forums have posted saying they have or had them). The only issue seems to be in early pregnancy you can’t take the medication. You just need to wait until the cycle is over (I think the worms survive a 6 week cycle if there’s no reinfection!).

Hope this helps at all xx

Thanks hun, I called my gp, she said that they wouldn’t like to give me any treatment at all during pregnancy if it can be avoided, so I’ve just got to be extra cautious with my own hygiene and hopefully I’ll be ok.

Why do kids have to get so many gross things!
