Hi, I'm Nykola currently 6 weeks 5 days, due Dec 2nd :)

OK, bit of a long story this one but bear with me please ladies...

So, as soon as I realised I was pregnant I informed my boss on a confidential basis, obviously for health and safety reasons and to keep him informed. I have always had a good relationship with my boss, he is fairly new to the company and only started in September last year. A few other people within my department have had problems with him, as in the way he speaks to people and such and as a result 2 people have left from the department within the time he has been here. I personally have never had a problem until now. Since I told him I was pregnant his attitude towards me has changed, he has made comments like "your silly having a baby, your in the prime of your career" etc. I just ignored it and brushed it off.

Now approx 2 weeks ago, a job came up at another site, its very similar to my job and the woman who has left worked very closely with me. I said in passing conversation that I did not mind going over to this other site to help out while a replacement was found. He replied by saying you may be going opver there permanent. So I asked what he meant and he said exactly "well when you go on maternity leave you wont be coming back into this department"

So I explained to him that if I returned to work within 6 months my job had to be kept open and only if I stay off on maternity longer then they could place me anywhere else. he replied by saying "I know the law and I know the ways around it". I was obviously upset by this comment.

He has become somehwat unapproachable, he shouts a lot at me and is short tempered with me. I was off work for a weeks holiday and put in an official complaint. When I came back after my weeks holiday (bear in mind the guy rang me constantly while I was off work asking me work related stuff which is annoying to say the least when trying to relax) I had to have a meeting with the MD who said he would deal with the comlaint. I was only in for 2 days and then off sick due to bad morning sickness.

I dont know what has happened with the complaint or if anything will happen tbh. I am due to go back into work on Monday, but am considering asking the doctor to sign me off for a week as the horrible boss is in this week then off for two weeks holiday. I really dont want to go in and have to deal with him, I dont need the stress or pressure at the minute. I am so worried and anxious over this pregnancy due to a previous M/C, me and my partner have been trying for a baby for some time now and obviously we really want this pregnancy to be successful.

I'm not sure what to do about this situation, I feel like I'm trapped really and once he knows (if not already) that I have put in this complaint I fear things will get worse. The MD that spoke to me about the complaint told me not to worry about it but thats easier said than done. But then on the other hand I dont want to have too much time off work as fear it could end in disciplinary for me....

I wont be able to get another job while pregnant and if I just leave I will be fofeiting all my maternity rights.

Help/advice please.................

I think you've done the right thing by speaking out - this behaviour is not acceptable.

I would also keep a diary of comments/actions from this guy as he is clearly discriminating and bullying you.

Hiya,

The way you are being treated is disgusting. Fair play to you though for making the complaint official.

I would strongly recommend you keep on top of the complaint and ensure that they follow it through.. Keep any emails or letters you write for evidence. I would also recommend that each time you have a meeting you ask that someone accompany you to be a witness. Have you got an HR department? if so i would get them involved to.

If you want any free legal advice then i would go and speak with the citizens advice bureau. If you can continue wrking i would strongly recommend you do as you dont want to give them the satisfaction of having something against you.

Your boss sounds like a complete bully (putting it politely) and it sounds like he has got away with things for far to long. Time to change things i reakon!!

Good luck and keep us posted!

May I suggest you post this in the Working During Pregnancy, Maternity pay, Benefits and Tax credits section. Its not likely that those who are up on employment rights etc will visit in here too often and possibly won't see it.

Thanks for the replies,

Please can a Moderator move this to the correct section- did not realise there was a special section for work issues.

xx

Drop a PM to the mods and ask, will be quicker I am guessing :) You can see who they are when you view the overall forum :)

Lots of people post work related things in the Work section and there are a fair few who are quite clued up and able to offer advice. But they may not frequent first tri. So always worth trying to post to the relavant section.

Its fine here I am sure, but just maybe won't get seen by as many.

Good luck

Oh Hun, what a horrible situation you are being put in.

I agree with the Diary and CAB. Would definitely just go and talk to someone at the CAB sooner rather than later.

Sooo hope it will work out
