hi, just looking for advice from ladies with older children. mark is 8 months and loves his food as long as its completely pureed, as soon as we try to give him anything with lumps he gaggs; spits it out and refuses to eat any more. He will eat finger food quite happily but if it comes from a spoon then he wont have any of it. he has no teeth either so i dont know if that mkes a difference. any advice on how to introduce lumps would be great.

thanks

Don't know what to suggest. Sounds like Ellie was when she had a phlemmy throat. Now she will take some lumps and won't gag, but also won't eat as much as when it is a puree, she just loses interest sooner. I am trying not to worry too much as she happily takes finger food and will demolish half a banana, toast, dairlea sandwiches etc. Discovered the other day she adores prawn crackers. Though mean Mummy, wouldn't let her have more than a small bit as I wasn't sure how much salt is in them. Does anybody know?

Isaac was a bit like that to start with. I just took things slowly and instead of pureeing his food I mashed it so that it was a little bit lumpier. Gradually increase the lumpiness of foods.

You will get there with a bit of patience.

It sounds like he just needs a bit more time to adjust. Be patient, slowly and gradually introduce the lumps and follow his lead, he'll get there eventually

Nicky - there is quite a lot of salt in prawn crackers, and sugar, additives and they are deep fried so are very high in fat. Emma loves them as well but I'm a mean mummy too and only let her have 1.

We had this problem with Aimee and I bought the packets of dried baby food for her. They have VERY small lumps in. It didn't take her long to adjust after that and by about 10 months she would eat anything.

Arianna was exactly the same... I just stuck with it.... she seemed to like rice pudding and the lumps in that... so maybe you could try that?!?
