hi my little one had trouble with his left eye not working in line with his right eye for the first few weeks or so after he was born, he is now 3 months old and it still turns in occasionally is this normal? will it sort itself out and work with the other one? or should i take him to the doc?

i am not worried about it if it is a prob, just want to get it sorted with a patch or whatever it needs (my little bro had a lazy eye and had a patch but his didn't turn in it just was very shortsighted)

also he has a blocked tear duct on this eye (also since birth) are they related do you think?

thanks in advance

Oooh, poor Adam!

I would get him to the Dr's... might need drops for the eye if its not cleared yet. Im sure mine took about 3 weeks to clear, was certainly gone by 2 months old.

Apart from that, I cant comment, take him to Dr's and see what they say about the eyes not moving together... it migth be normal, mabey some take longer than others to even out - I dont know.

Let us know how you get on tho!!

IIRC is normal for babies eyes to not be in sync in the early weeks/months. They adjust over time and start focusing better as LO's get older. Galen's used to be all over the place. Why not mention to your HV about it next time you go to the HV clicnic? See what she says.

Re the blocked tear duct. Its very common in young babies so don't worry about it. If it needs cleaning do so with cooled boiled water and cotton wool. My LO has it and we've had 2 lots of conjunctivitus so far. But the GP isn't worried and said they try to let tear ducts right themselves and don't intervene until at least a year old.

I'd not think it was connected.

thanks guys with regards to the tear duct i have been cleaning it with breast milk and it is much better it just cries alot of the time and is no longer green/white,

his eye didn't turn it to start with it just tended to wander a bit, but now it really goes into the corner, mostly if he is concentrating or tired......i think i will mention to hv on fri when i get him weighed and see what she says !!

My OH and I both had squints corrected surgically when we were kids and my HV made a note in Eva's red book to keep an look out for it happening to Eva. Apparently its a hereditary thing  Anyway, we think Evas eye is turning in too, my HV said she could refer us to a specialist now or wait and see for a few more months, I think there is nothing to be done until they are a year old anyway.
You have reminded me I was gonna research this though, I will get back to you if i find anything interesting.

I know i cant comment baby wise but i had my squint corrected via surgery at 13 in my right eye and 17 in my left.

it wasnt picked up till i was about 10 though.

You couldnt tell i had a squint except every so ofter it would drift out wards to the corner. They triewd patches and exercises but in the end surgery was needed.

I would mention it to the HV or GP and see what they think of it

Hope he gets on ok and if the surgery is required im guessing they would maybe wait till he was older...its done under GA. It was painful a bit after and itchy but other than that no probs :)

Hope you can get it sorted ok

Right I have just read this

http://www.augentagesklinik.com/en/info ... hielen.php

and personally I think I will be asking for a referral to get Eva's eyes checked. OH is virtually blind in one eye because his squint wasnt corrected early enough, but I didnt realise there was no possibility of it sorting itself out as she grows.

Ha so much for the HV, dont know why I listened over this matter, they havent been right about virtually anything else

Just read this back, I'm not trying to panic you hun, I'm just glad you jogged my memory and I did a bit of research!

For the tear duct try massaging it gently - it's basically between the nose and the corner of the eye, massage gently from there down a bit. Rebecca's cleared up within a week of doing this - usually it's just not cleared/opened properly after birth rather than infection.

Evie quite often goes crosseyed when concentrating on her mobile, the Dr said it's OK for them to do this up to approx 12 weeks and if it continues after this then to bring her back... So if he's older than 12 weeks I'd get it checked out

Hope this helps
