My HV told me to get Jack weighed just once a month unless i have any worries or problems.

I dread weighing day, i have been giving Jack a bit of food with his last bottle and he is getting a little chunk, i am always worried that she will pick up on his weight gain, last time i went at 12 weeks he was 14lb  and he was on the 75th percentile. I am just so worried that he is too big :(

I am supposed to be going today but i don't want to take him incase she says anything, but i think i am going to have to talk to her anyway cos he is having 8-9oz every 3 hours! He is 16 weeks today so i might ask about giving him a meal in the day to, but she is so old fashioned and miserable :(

I don't want him to be fat but i don't want to think he is going hungry either

i wouldnt worry as long as he hasnt jump dramatically up the charts and is growing nicely and appears healthy then there is no issue Matthew got weighed last week at 14 weeks he was 15lb 1/2oz so since birth he has gained 6lbs but has dipped below the percentile line he was on but since he is obviously healthy she commented on his chunky thighs! then there was no issue.

Mason was ABOVE the 99th centile when he was a baby and was purely breastfed (before he was even on solids... he stayed big on solids too)
He's not overweight at all now, just a happy healthy 4 year old.
Because of him I worry Brody should be bigger LOL

I think it's always better to have them on the bigger side cos if they get ill and lose a bit of weight they've got it to lose, not like if they are already underweight.
Don't worry hun :)

don't worry yvonne, ruben was 14lbs 9oz at just 10 weeks, and has been on or just below the 91st centile since birth - and he's a breastfed baby!

taking into consideration that the centile charts are based on FORMULA fed babies, that means he's quite a chunk - as breastfed babies tend to be leaner they say....

he is due to be weighed tomorrow, when he will be 13 weeks, i wonder how much he will have put on..!

none of my HVs have ever commented on him being chubby, other than being positive about it saying how he's thriving etc. and i suppose he'll slow down his weight gain as he gets more active, crawling and walking etc.

Coby is on the 75th percentile too

he was born on it and has stayed on it, he is going up nicely and spot on everytime

Jack is fine, dont worry hun

xx

My HV is just so miserable and you can't do anything without he finding out, when she visited my house and Amy had a cut or bruise from falling over ( like kids do!!) she was quizzing me, " was i there when it happened, what did i do when it happened" etc!!
Every time i go to clinic she always comments on how pale i look and am i coping!! No matter how much i tell her i have always had pale skin as i'm blonde she seems to think i am having problems!!

I'll keep you posted, i am going at 1.30pm

my HV is like that, she has no kids of her own and insists she knows best.

i always tell her to shut up, that all babies are diffrent and to stop quoteing text book stuff at me.

she knows better now lol

well i went to get him weighed and he is 16lb 16oz!! but she told me to start weaning him as he is drinking alot of milk, she said by the time he's 22/23 weeks he should be on 3 meals a day!!

Well it was a shock to the system but its done now!

He's over the 75th percentile now!!

aww getting big! Ella was 16lb 3oz 2 weeks ago, and I was also recommended to wean ella when she got to 17 weeks becuase she was drinking so much!

she doesnt sound that bad than Yvonne, its good she has said he can go on soilds rather than doing the whole "not wean till 6 months" bollocks

when Charlie and Ethan were little by the time they were 6 months they were meant to be on 3 meals a day and only 2 bottles of milk, im going to do the same with Coby.

good luck with the weaning!

xxxx

cheers Layla, she must have been in a good mood today cos the weather is nice!!

She had a right go at the woman before me cos she told her shehad been giving her baby baby rice twice a day and it is only 12 weeks old!!

I didn't hear what she said properly but she was shouting!!

thats why i get so annoyed when they put an age limit on it, every baby is diffrent

some cant go untill 6 months without having soilds, but other babys can.

HV should play it by ear, not scare mums in to waiting longer than is nessasry(sp?)

xxx

Oh im glad she was a little nicer today, it seems the obvious next step, and im glad she agreed.
Jack is lush and always looks so healthy and handsome!
Like i said, ive still never met a good HV!

My HVs is pro weaning at 4 months. Many Health Visitors are although they've had the information and guidance on waiting til 6 months for the past 3 years. It's a shame that HVs are not listening to the Department of Health guidelines and helping to support mothers into leaving it longer til they wean them rather than telling them to start feeding them early. There is obviously reasons why mothers are told not to, i.e. babies cannot digest the food properly, the risks of obesity in later life, the risks of food allergies etc.

Glad it went well, I feel exactly like you do about Mel's weight as he's around the 75th too but whenever I take him to see a nurse or GP they always seem really pleased to see his chunkiness! As one of my friend's mum's said when I was little they were trying to get everyone's babies to be "bonny" as they put it and our generation haven't had the problems with obesity that the more recent ones have so to be honest (and this is what my HVs have said) it's more to do with what happens after they're weaned and once they're running around or not that really makes a difference. I still get paranoid that I'm going to get a lecture but what can you do if your babe is hungry?! I don't know how we made it to 17 weeks without solids as he was desperate for them, he was so much happier and settled afterwards.

I talked to my GP about this whole weaning at 4 or 6 months thing the other day as she seemed amused at the fact that no one seems to agree on it. She said that there aren't any biological reasons not to start to wean at 17 weeks and she said that some babies won't manage to get that far before needing solid food let alone 6 months. Who knows what to believe?! My Mum is now paranoid that she caused untold damage to my inards by weaning me at 2 months!

My HV is fantastic!! I don't know what her views on weaning are though. I tried Rubie at 4 months because she was drinking so much milk but she wasn't physically ready, she couldn't swallow, so I am leaving it.

My HV was trying to get me to introduce Seren to baby rice at 14 weeks which I said no to. I agree with you Rosie, I wish they would ll sing from the same song sheet. I was trying Seren on baby rice, she scoffed the lot on the first day, only had two spponfuls yesterdy and today refused it so think I may leave it for a bit.
