I've read so much on having a natural birth but can't seem to find that much about caesarean births.
I'm wondering what it's like afterwards? How bad is the pain and how long does it last for? Is it really difficult to hold your baby and is it absolute agony?
Any info would be great! I want to be prepared just in case!

i had a section!!!!

the day after is the worst for the pain but you can ask for lots of pain killers lol. the worst thing to do is cough! ouch!

when you holding your lil one all the pain just goes

any other questions fire away

I had a section with my first baby and am having another with this one. I have to say I didn't find the pain too bad. It was worst when I was getting up but to be honest you are so excited about your little one you just get on with it.

I didn't find the recovery bad at all and from the second day just took paracetomel. I made sure I took little walks as soon as I could and laid on the bed and took deep breaths which apparantley helps healing :)

I had a c-section and its the worst thing ive ever been through ! im praying for a natural birth next time!!
The pain afterwards was unbearable, waking in the night and not being able to move/hold my baby was so upsetting. and the car journey home from hospital had me in tears i was in so much pain!!
I cant believe all these celebs that choose to go through a major operation just to get out of giving birth as they are scared of pain!!, its madness !!

Anyway hun stay postive im sure you wont need one! :)

I had a section with both of my kids and the first one I found fine. The pain wasnt too bad and the recovery was easy. This one has been worse. The pain was a lot worse because of scar tissue and scar has taken longer to recover but the last few days I have felt great again. They arent as bad as you think they would be, my only mistake was thinking the second one was going to be a easy as the first.

when the spinal was gone the pain kicked in, but hey like everything u will forget the pain after a while hun cos u have ur baby

the pain is so worth it :D

Hey Luce!

Haven't been on here for ages!!!

I had one with Jake (now 6 months old, can you believe it!).....and it was an emergency c-section and ended up having a general anaesthetic too. Full recovery was about 10 weeks. The hardest thing was wanting to drive and couldn't for 6 weeks, breastfeeding (holding him was too hard with my tummy) and lifting him and walking for a while.

I was out and about though after about 1-2 weeks. Prob went too hard too fast as I managed to get an infection but I think it helped getting me mobile again.

The scar takes AGES to go down. And this was about 3 months where I could touch it and it not feel yucky.

Anyone thinking of just having one coz of lack of pain etc etc.....I'd go natural all the way if you could. I went through pain anyway with all the labour etc etc and then had surgery so it wasn't pleasant.

But good luck....and keep us posted!!

Love Sass

I think wether you have a natural birth or a c section, it going to bloody hurt

Either way you do it, your body is going thru some sort of trauma, and as for recovery I think both are on par with each other, with natural you cant sit properly because your mary hurts and walking and weeing can be abit traumatic  , and c section you cant sit up or lift, but with coughing and sneezing lol it hurts alot aswell after a natural birth, makes me go all funny thinking about it :?

At the end of the day when im nursing Olivia and I see her little face looking so happy and content, it makes every bit of all that worth it :D

I've had both and prefer the section to the natural birth any day!

Bad bits - natural birth:
took 25 hours
vomited all the way through
had to have an episiotomy
I was really out of it when she was born and can hardly remember it
couldn't sit down for a week after because of the stitches

Good bits:
Hmmmm  ...None for me!

Bad bits - section:
Took ages to get the spinal block in
aneasthetic wore off while they were stitching me
long(er) recovery

Good bits:
Took about an hour from going down to being back on the ward
DH didn't have to see me in pain (don't think he'd have coped)
ooodles of help after as people now you've had an op
The painkillers!!!!

I actually found my milk coming in to be more painful than both though!! I breastfed Kayleigh, but not Charlie, and both ways were just as bad!

i had a caesarean 4and a half mths ago and im still numb where my scar is!!!!!

cos i didnt know id end up havin one when i went into labour i was relieved to have it so that i could get Jamie out lol!!

coughing, laughing and sneezing r so painful afterwards tho!!!

had plenty of saltwater baths and my scars healed nicely!!

Having a c section is my biggest fear of all! I dont care what else they have to do to get the baby out, I just dont want to go through a section

kirsty - when babys stuck and ur shattered then a caesarean is a huge relief i can tell u!!! i was pushin 17hours and wanted to curl up and sleep but when ur in theatre ur sooo excited and in no pain whatsoever!!!!

I had a section 8 years ago and I was fine.
Felt great, did too much after got home and
legs swelled up! So no matter how great u feel
I would say calm down a little and let others pamper u.
Everyone is different so the op mite be fine for u
but the recovery terrible and vice versa.
If u get morphine after the op then use it!!
Would wake up for feeding babes during the nite
then after would press the button to get a dose of morphine then

I found it great and after i left hosp only needed paracetomal.
Going for a trial labour this time so God knows what my experience will be.
Bottom line is u will have a lovely present for going thru it!!!!
  Good Luck

I had a c section last time and I am hoping, hoping, hoping  not to have to do that again!

It was a horrible experience for me, it was pre planned but I didn't get the immediate contact with the babies, I was too shaky to hold them afterwards, i couldn't get up to them and couldn't really do much with them until the next day :(

The pain of walking from the bed to the bathroom the next morning was horrendous, I was walked over double for 6 months and due to an infection in my scar, i was reopened at 6 months, cleaned up and had to reheal, prob took me about 9 months!

I have to go back to see my consultant in 8 weeks to make the final decision but I am so so hoping they will let me attempt natural delivery, I don't want to do that again without a damn good reason

I had a c section and to be honest didn't find it that bad. The worst pain was the wind pain I got in my shoulder after! Also getting in and out of bed is a bit of a pain in the bum! If I had another baby I would opt for a c section now, the thought of giving birth naturally scares the crap out of me. My midwife told me I would never have got him out because his head would have been too big so has scared me  I healed well thankfully but I do know people can get infections and it's not nice. I think either way you gotta get the baby out and both natural and c sections can have complications.
