Which formula from birth? There are soo many.

Don't think midwives have a right to make you feel bad for not bf it's your choice.. It's like them telling you what brand nappies/wipes to use.. Either way your baby is going to get fed no matter where it comes from!!

Jack wouldn't latch on to me when he was born so I couldn't breast feed. We'd bought a tub of Cow & Gate incase BFing didn't happen and Jack's had no problems with it x

I had problems bf both my girls, my fault as my nipples weren't big enough but I was still made to feel bad about it by midwives :(

lol as if you could make your nipples grow bigger just by wanting it????????

This thread has really made me think, as although I am planning to breastfeed (partly due to the fact I'm tight and too lazy to prepare bottles!!) it had never crossed my mind that I might not actually physically be able to. I am going to investigate further and will pack some 'just in case' things don't go to plan. Thanks for the advice.

Tell me about it!! I felt like such a failure!! She got me to try in front of her as if I was fucking lying about her not latching on!! If they don't latch on properly it's like someone is burning your nipple off!! I bled and everything it was awful!!
I'm still gonna try again this time but not gonna beat myself up if I can't. Plus then daddy can bond with baby more thru feeding.
Our hormones do crazy things after birth we don't need that sh*t!!

My poor Jack's problem was that I was numb from my epidural and had a catheter so I couldn't move and couldn't reach into his 'fish tank' thingy to wake him for a feed . It was night time and everytime I told a MW he hadn't had a feed at all they all just said "he's fine he's asleep". He ended up sleeping for the first 12 hours he was born so by the time the morning staff came along and I told a MW he hadn't fed at all and was born 12 hours previously they all panicked and tried to get him to latch on, by then he was too weak to try to breast feed so had to be formula fed. The 12 hour wait caused his blood sugar levels to drop and he was rubbish at feeding at first so I could try him again when my milk came in at 4 days! It felt like such a waste but I needed to know how much milk he was taking x

I used SMA gold for the first 3-4 weeks then Emily got bad colic so I changed to cow and gate comfort and that made a huge difference.

And I agree that no one should make you feel guilty for not BF'ing

Claire that's awful :( Jaycee went 10hrs without a feed but was a sucky baby luckily (didn't think she would have the energy, she came out blue n cold not breathing coz of the cord round her neck.. She was under a heat lamp for two hours before I got a proper cuddle) so she was good at sucking to the point of tears it hurt so bad coz she wasn't on properly.. Coz I was a young mum they seemed to not bother looking after me like they did the married thirty-something's.. I had to ask for help bf so many times.. They literally grabbed my boob and her head n made a connection.. Didn't tell me how she did it (it worked so I knew it could b done) but coz she wouldn't latch on right everytime my nipples just bled :( so I had to stop and give her the hospital sma.. Was in hospital for two days after birth and noone wanted to help me bf :(

im not breastfeeding as it doesnt appeal to me at all x its a personal desicion and im not going to be bullied into something i dont want to do x so your not alone x x

My ds and dd were both brought up on formula and both are fit and healthy and have been since birth, they are 16 & 15 now.

im using cow and gate x i used it with my older kids, a trick i did learn was that if you add 1/2 once more water to your bottle it stops baby being constipated x
