Please dont judge me, Im getting enough of that off my horrible midwife!!

For personal reasons I am not breastfeeding my baby at all, I am going to bottle feed her from the minute she is born and as there are lots of different types of formulas in the shops I havent got a clue as to which one is best.

I have seen sma in small ready made cartons which can used for when she is born then switch to powder when she is a couple of days or so old.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I guess that she could not like one brand but obviously I wont know that til I try her on it and will only buy a small tin in the begining until I now if it agrees with her or not.

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'll be using SMA. Used it with my 1st, only reason really was because they were giving it out in the hospital

:)

i was thinking SMA too as its been around since i was a baby so can't be bad!? xx

Pick which ever you want. It may or may not go well with your LO and you might have to change or you might find one that suits straight away. I had to try 3 formulas, aptimal, SMA and Hipp before finding one that suited us which was Hipp. I think all of them come in ready made cartons so just get a couple in :)

Im gonna try sma gold... purely cos thats what my sis and I were given and didnt have any probs. So will see how that goes :)

i will be using aptamil i used it with my ds and it was great a lot of my friends also switched to it as well x

We have always used Aptamil and lots of my friends now use it to - its really good, one baby I looked after had to go back into hospital because she wasn't getting enough breastmilk and she was quite dehydrated - the hospital also used Aptamil x

I Shall be using Aptamil. Purely based on the Germans have a very weird choice in baby formula. And Aptamil is the only English one that stands out that I know off & that I know they will have in the hospital & I refuse to pay NAAFI prices for things like that!

Glad you posted this thread as it's something I needed info on too. I haven't broached the subject with the midwife yet as I just know they will be judgemental............ don't be bullied into doing something you don't want to, it's you choice. (The lovely ladies on here convinced me of that when I was having a wobble about it).

With my DD i used cow n gate from birth :) The hospital provide it in bottles while i was in hospital and i never had a prob with it. I was always going to use cow n gate as my 2 of my friends babys used sma and both of thr babies were very sicky babies and i know that had nothing to do with the milk but at the time it did persuade me against it lol. But alot of the formular milk is all the same now, pretty much the same price so which ever u want really :)

Noone is here to judge you
I've always used sma gold.. They gave it to me in the hospital too when I had Jaycee.. Babies r us sell the little glass bottles and sterilized teats they give in hospital in a box.. I bought some for my hospital bag incase I have trouble bf again.. Also handy to have them to hand ready to go :)
The teats are fantastic they are the nuk ones, Jaycee wouldn't drink from anything else so she had to have these constantly.. Even her dummies had to be the same shape and latex! She hated silicone!!
You'll never know what is best for your baby til you try them on different brands. Ellie had gastric reflux and coz everyone was going nuts for cow and gate on the forum I put her on that.. Then aptimil etc til she finally kept down the sma gold. Should have gone with sma to start with I felt so bad she was so sick :(

im gonna get some ready made sma gold packs just incase BF dont go well. theres no shame in not wanting or not being able to BF, its your choice and every mum does what she thinks is best for her and her baby.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I was inclined to go towards sma as I can remember that from when I was little but had an allergy to powder and cows milk so was on goats milk.

i used SMA Gold with DD and will be using it this time around too :) xx

Good to see recommendations - I too wll be bottling feeding from birth ( due to medical reasons I could ever BF) and even knowing that my awful midwife deems it neccessary to remind me that breast is best - cow!!!

babiesrus.co.uk do some good deals on the starter packs for hospital for SMA.

This is my plan too in case I can't BF for whatever reason. I was gonna go with the ready made Aptamil for my hospital bag just coz I read good things about it.

I won't be BF either, purely down to choice. Yet to tell midwife though I'm guessing. Think I shall be trying SMA as it's what I had when I was a baby and what OH had too :) xx

I dont know how it will all go but got couple of packets just in case, my friend fed her lo SMA gold so I got that too. But she did say it was trial and error.

I've bottle fed from day 1 and use Aptamil. We've had no problems with it at all.
