Please dont judge me, Im getting enough of that off my horrible midwife!!

For personal reasons I am not breastfeeding my baby at all, I am going to bottle feed her from the minute she is born and as there are lots of different types of formulas in the shops I havent got a clue as to which one is best.

I have seen sma in small ready made cartons which can used for when she is born then switch to powder when she is a couple of days or so old.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I guess that she could not like one brand but obviously I wont know that til I try her on it and will only buy a small tin in the begining until I now if it agrees with her or not.

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Poppy has been on SMA since day one up until yesterday - it made her constipated. We switched to Cow & Gate and saw improvement in one day. But every baby is different. x

Both mine were on sma gold and never had probs. It's quite trail and error with formula's x.

Hi Flaxen,
I used Sma Gold with my son, and like Lulu he suffered from constipation (but I that may be just him as he still suffers now and he's 2.) So we changed to Cow and Gate Comfort which helps ease colic, wind and constipation.xxxx

:) hey i answered your question in the other section you posted in :) xx

Matthew uses sma gold! No problems with it at all, it's what they gave him when he was in scbu!

It's down to personal choice. I've used sma gold with all 3 of my boys and they were fine with it.

You can use the powdered from birth Hun. I think the cartons are good if your out and about or used for night feeds when you got a hungry crying baby that won't wait very long for you to make one up, Wished I did that looking back!

I use aptamil, its what they use in hospitals for preemies (in edinburgh atleast!)

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I was thinking towards sma as I can remember that being about for a long time, I was allergic to powder and cows milk so ended up on goats milk.

My midwife never critised my choice to ff but the hospital did they wrote some nasty comments in my notes.

Riley was on cow and gate but he got constipated so i switched to aptamil comfort which has really helped.

I use Aptimal for the boys and also with my daughter and they have all been fine on it.

What did they write?

When i got to the ward id been awake for 3 days and asked where the bottles were kept. In my notes it says Demanding bottles. i was too tired to be damanding anything

Later after i slept they asked if id like help bf and i explained that i didnt want to bf. They wrote, refusing to give baby best start. Wont accept any help watch for signs of depression.

That's not nice! So just because you chose not to they thought you were depressed! And with the 'best start' bit, I think it's personal choice, and they should support either way you choose!

hospitals have a milk station usually has cow and gate and sma as they are the cheapest for them to buy, my little man was put onto sma as I struggled to breastfeed and had little and no help with it at all. personally now after having my son I feel more prepared for the next one I might even take my own bottles and milk into hospital this time so I have backup and my choice of milk.

i cant believe the hospital said that, how dare they! i am in the process of deciding how to feed my baby when it is born and i am really angry with all the pressure out there to breast feed. women should make their own choices and be supported. i dont feel comfortable with breast feeding and will probably bottle feed. i am so shocked that the hospital reacted that way to you. i am really fed up with the 'script' people seem to read off when it comes to this, 'breast is best' etc rather than giving unbiased, truthfull advice with no pressure. sorry, a bit of a rant, but you should not have been judged like this. x
