Hi All,

I'm just wondering when in your opinion it is time to see the doctor when you have come off the contraceptive pill and your periods still aren't normal?

Also how long do you try for a baby before going to see the doctor to see if everything is ok?

Thanks :)

You'd normally wait a year of actively ttc before seeing a doc. Re your periods, guess it depends on what you mean by normal? I'd probably give it 6m to let my cycles to go back to being regular but equally nothing to stop you having a chat with doc at any time if you're worried x

Back in 2012 I came off the injection, at the time I was told it could take up to 12-18 months before my cycles return to normal by my doctor. In the nod it was 7 months before I got a period. Very frustrating when you're waiting to start a family.
How long have you been waiting?

It's only been 3 months and last month I had some very very slight spotting but nothing that I would say was a period. I know 3 months isn't very long but it's driving me mad
I never really had normal periods when I went onto the pill and that was one reason why I went on but I'm worried because I never had a regular cycle that it could be something to do with fertility.

I would see my doctor if irregular periods have been a problem before the pill/bc. You might have a condition like eg PCOS that could make conception difficult. Best to have your doctor investigate the cause of your irregularity now than later. Best of luck xxx

I went to the GP after about 4 months after stopping the pill as my periods didn't come back after stopping the pill. I had other symptoms as well which turned out to be a high prolactin so I definitely needed to get mine investigated. I had normal periods before going on the pill. If you're worried I would get it checked sooner rather than later. especially if your periods weren't regular to begin with. Also bear in mind that investigations can take a bit of time waiting between appointments etc.
