okay so me and OH have been trying for nine months with no success and it's really getting me down particularly because everyone seems to be getting pregnant aorund me. SO I was wondering when do you think is an appropriate amount of time to go to the doctors or just give up (which may be my only option because OH is reluctant to take anything to the doctors and claims 'it'll happen when it's meant to') but the fact of the matter is niether of us have had children and my periods are fairly irregular with my cycles mainly being very short like twenty days, so how do I know that we can have children? how long should I continue being optimistic with my homes up and thinking about the future with children before I give up because what if I'm always dissapointed... sorry about the rant just don't know what to do/think right now.. :(

Hunny, 9 months isn't long, but long enough if you are in your 30's-40's to try without speaking to someone (sorry I don't know how old you are). There is no harm in having a chat to the docs, have some bloods done and check your hormones, before deciding whether to give up or take things further, if your OH agrees. I presume you've been using the ovulation kits? My sister found that even with a 28 days cycle she was ovulating much later than she thought she should be. You sound really down, big hugs

20 day cycles ??? Hmmmmm that could be your problem right there.

You need at least 10 days after ovulation for a successful implant, which if you ovulate on cd10 is fine.

Have you tried using ovulation tests ? I think you should try them on your next cycle then you can count how many days from ovulation to period and if its really short then go and see your doctor.

thanks I will try. And no we're not in our thirties we're very young 20 and 23. I will start using OPKS cause i've never tried them, I don't know whether my periods have always been this short because i've only really tracked them in the past five months and theyve gone 27, 20, 17, 23, 22. :s I really hope it doesn't effect my fertility xx

You could see your doc to to discuss irregular cycles. Mention that you are TTC and that you are concerned. The general rule to seek advice at your age is after a year of TTC, but with irregular cycles they may be able to give you some advice. Deffo try OPK's. I just use the internet cheapies and am going to start confirming with a digital one. Hope everything works out for you xx

I went for the first time after 9 months trying. We're both in our twenties. Doctor said he couldn't do much until a year, but it got the ball rolling and I'm glad we did

Other people in here haven't had such lovely doctors though

my doctor will do anything to avoid bothering so I know i'll be sent away x

You doc will refer you quick enough if you keep going back, seem him now, make sure you get some bloods done to make sure you are ovulating. Do your research and go in there knowing what to ask for and armed with info. There must be help on the web or on here that will make you feel able to argue your point! The other option is the family planning clinic, it was actually them that got my bloods done and scan for PCOS in the end! Make yourself a pain and they will send the referal quick enough :)

Also tell your doctor you have been trying for a year or longer as that may help get the ball rolling x
