TTC @ 40yrs old?

Thanks Nurse i will ask him again if i get pregnant, i hope everything goes well with you ) x

, mine were investigated for loads of stuff ater my 3rd like lupus and other stuff,

Hi Dearnie!!!

Sorry to hear of your losses......

I'm 40 and TTC our first. I have Lupus and was always told I would never become pregnant. However after a MMC in January this year my hopes were changed by a wonderful consultant who told me to go ahead and try as long as the condition was stable off meds.

Recently the lovely Nurse on here mentioned Lupus Anticoagulant factor which I'm now under investigation for. Apparantly it causes MC in 85% of Lupus ladies and the treatment is simple.

If you have Lupus symptoms get your doctor to refer you to a Consultant that specialises in Lupus, my blood tests don't always show any inflammatory factor though sometimes it's very high!

I do understand about doctors palming you off when you are an older lady TTC. I think it's because they have no where to refer you to as most fertility investigation stops between 34-39 on the NHS.

Go back and demand to be seen!!!

I can't offer much advice as I'm in my early 20's but my mum, who was 34 having me and 36-37 having my younger brother was told because of her age, high blood pressure etc.... that having kids would be a massive push she also had 6-8 miscarriages from a young age and then met my father had a few with him too and finally conceived me.

While pregnant with me she had to go in to hospital all the time to have check ups and clearly couldn't give birth naturally and I was delivered by caesarean, my brother on the other hand - they weren't trying to conceive him and when she told her DR he blatantly told her to have an abortion as another child WOULD kill her, she had a terrible pregnancy and a horrible caesarean birth luckily both my brother and she lived - but she has suffered like hell with her health since, she now has hernia, ulcer, angina, high blood pressure not that she regrets having us but I think you need to take into an account your age, any illnesses you have prior to having a baby and the possible illnesses you'll have after.

With the medical advances these days if being pregnant, giving birth etc is too much for your body to handle there are other options, but I know you probably want YOUR own child which is fair enough, if so seek medical advice from someone who is expertise in this topic.

Hi hun, I'm 38 and also ttc our first. My nan was 45 when she had my dad so you're def not too old :)

Sounds like the docs are being pretty useless... I can't really advise, but are you doing all the things we're told about to bring blood pressure down? Cutting out salt (loads of hidden salt in processed foods / ready meals!) and regular exercise? Wishing you the very best of luck with ttc Xx

Sorry for your losses, I fell pregnant at 40 but sadly lost it at 8 weeks, there was a heartbeat 2 weeks before but none at scan at 8 weeks, fell pregnant again 4 weeks later and gave birth 2 weeks ago at the age of 41! Age can be an issue with certain problems eg downs but because of your age you will automatically be under consultant care and have a lot more monitoring. I wish you luck in getting your baby soon xx
