Hi all,

My son in coming up to his first birthday and guidelines state that we should be switching to cows milk and discontinuing use of a bottle.

I was just wondering realistically when other parents did the switch? I don't think I'm going to have a problem making the switch between formula and cows milk as I tried my son with a sippy cup of cows milk this morning and although it took him ages to drink he did seem to enjoy it. I just know he really likes his bedtime bottle and don't really know how to go about that transition? What did some of you guys do or did you continue with the bottle for a while longer? He literally only has a bottle before bed. He drinks water from a sippy cup with meals and throughout the day.

Any advice much appreciated :-)

I started giving my ds a sippy cup during the day a couple weeks before his 1st birthday and then just stopped the bottles after a week or two. We were lucky, he took to it amazingly.
We did it at the same time as weaning him off formula. So for example he was having 8oz bottles so for a couple of days we did 6oz formula and 2oz cows milk mixed together. And then a couple days of 4oz formula and 4oz cows milk and so on until it was all cows milk

My son is on toddler milk but he drinks more than 500 mls. If that's your max that you can stick with and the other meal times are keeping him nourished, I'd swap. If the bedtime bottle and day time bottles exceed the 500 mls, try swapping to toddler milk or a follow on first to cut down on calories. Formula is fortified with vitamins and minerals, so if you do swap make sure to start giving some vitamin drops. We still have bottles, he's 2,5.. My advise on that is throw them out when you can! (It's more because the formula along with the teats cost a fortune once they start getting their last sets of teeth)

I switched to cows milk just before my LOs first birthday. Just done straight switch. She was only having her night time milk in a bottle at that time rest of drinks was from a cup. We went on holiday when she was 14 months old and we never gave her a bottle a night time when we were there so just didn't bother giving her one when we got back. She got her night time milk in her cup. X

My lo stopped wanting a bottle at 8 months, she just used a tommee tippee and we popped it in there x

My son has just turned two and has lactose-free milk in a bottle. He's sick with cow's milk (was also a bit sick with formula, but not as much as cow's milk). We swapped to lactose-free whole milk a couple of months after his first birthday. My daughter was almost 3 when I was finally able to get her to drink cow's milk and then a few weeks later she gave up the bottle herself. Neither of them have any problems with their teeth or anything.

We changed over when my daughter was drinking well from her cup, at about 14 months old. She has a cup of milk at morning & at night now at 19 months x

My LO is 15 months and still a bottle of cows milk at bed time. He gets a cup of milk in the morning which he'll drink some if but he isn't always keen. I'm not going to stop the bottle just yet, will prob try around 18 months. X

My love still had milk in a bottle at night until a few months ago she was 3 years and 4 months x
