Hi My midwife asked me what I though about having a home birth last week and I've been reading up on it and i'm coming more and more round to the idea.
I was just wondering what peoples experiences of them are Good and Bad?

I envy anyone who can do it!

Supposed to be very relaxed at home in your own surroundings.

If I could I would probably try to have one myself :D

I've more or less decided and asked my mum if it could be at her house as the family home is where I feel most comfortable.
She was thrilled and said my hubbie and me could take the bed and they'd sleep somewhere else.
Its a stone throw away from the hospital too so if anything were to go wrong we could get there within a few mins.
So fingers crossed everything goes smoothly.

Kirly why don't you inquire about it any see what they say :)

That sounds a lovely experience, at home with your parents

Not sure how far in advance you need to arrange this?

I don't see my consultant now re c section or natural delivery until 34 weeks so don't know if that would be too late to make plans?

I wouldn't worry I think you'd just make it because my midwife said they couldn't make proper plans until week 33 anyway until they checked everything was going smoothly. So I think its would be worth your while if you really wanted one to inquire and see if you still have time to arrange it if you found out you could do it naturally.
Finger crossed for you anyway hun

im gonna try and have a home birth this time as hospitals really freak me out

I really want a home birth. My sister had her second daughter at home & said she'd never have another one in a hospital (obviously unless she had to!) Apparently it was really relaxing, they had take away pizza halfway through & got to watch dvds in between contractions!

I booked a home birth and have until Wednesday to have baby at home. Anytime after that I have to have it in hospital plus i've got an induction of labour assessement on Wednesday afternoon. I'm still hoping and praying I get the home birth ( ) but if not, well it's just one of them things

Blimey a midwife suggesting it? Thats good hun!

I told mine on my booking in that I want one. When I read my hospital notes it says planned place of delivery - hospital. I DONT THINK SO!
So far the hospital have got everything wrong, had to tell them change of address 4 times, they booked me in for downs screening despite me declining, I asked consultant at 16 weeks to refer me to physio, he forgot. Just little things but its been something with every appointment so far plus the hospital was nearly put on special measures so I'd rather be at home thanks.

I really really want this baby at home, had hospital birth with DD and wasnt exactly thrilled so I'm putting my foot down!

my girl friend had her first baby at home in a pool and she bigged it up so much that i'm gonna do the same thing. giving birth looks frightening enough without all the bright hospital lights, unfamiliar surroundings, travelling to and from hospital, and doctors doing everything their way and rushing the whole thing to free up the bed. i really hope everything goes smoothly so i can fulfill my wish of a home birth
if i HAD to go to hospital i'd want a section

My midwife is very pro home births and I am going to try and have this baby at home. We're only 5 minutes from hospital so can be there quickly if the need arises.

I think I'll cope a lot better in my own surroundings. I wish I'd done it last time!!

Thank you

I would like a home birth but because this is my first - my fella & my mum & dad aren't so keen!
My hospital is such a dive!! I hate it :shakehead:

Personally I wouldn't want to risk it, things can go wrong so fast.

Whatever you think of the NHS you can't beat them in an emergency.

Nice idea though...
