Hey ladies,

We got a cotbed off a lovely lady on Free cycle today! As recommended, we know its best to get a new mattress. Having had a quick look I must admit I'm a bit daunted by the different types and prices. Does anyone have any recommendations on what is best?

Is there anything wrong with just a basic foam mattress?

I'm very confused

If you have a cot bed and your LO is going to be sleeping on it for a number of years I'd be inclined to go for a sprung mattress not a foam one. Foam tends to give after a while.

As Sherlock said, it kinda depends how long your LO will be sleeping in it for. If it is just for 2 or 3 years until moving to a single bed then a foam mattress would probably do. Personally we bought a good air sprung one as we always intended for our son to stay in the bed until it was too small - about 5 or 6 years. FWIW though, we only paid £35 for it brand new in a sale, so wasnt really that much more expensive than a foam one. Its always worth shopping around!

Austin just had a foam mattress in his cot, he's just moved into a proper bed and we spent a bit more to get a sprung mattress as I'm expecting him to be in this bed until he's 5 or 6. Ikea do mattresses fairly cheap (the one we bought is junior bed sized and cost £42) but you have to check the sizing.
