Does anyone know what you should eat or avoid during ivf treatment? I know you should drink loads of water and avoid caffeine/alcohol. I have heard a high protein diet is good and is it true you have to eat organic?

Hi,
I avoided caffiene alcohol processed foods but didn't convert to 100% organic. I did drink a lot of water and milk
Good luck x

Thanks clairabella, did you up your protein intake? I have heard that you have to eat organic meat because some meat has hormones etc in?

I drank organic milk as I was drinking at least 2 pints a day for the extra protein. There are hormones in inorganic meat / dairy products but you have to be consuming excessive quantities for it to make a difference.

That was my only change in diet. Lots of water is important too, especially after your trigger shot.

Thanks scotch, so u dont think eating non organic meat has any effect?

it's up to you, I don't eat much meat anyway so I wasn't worried. Maybe do a little research into how much hormones there are in the meat. I'd have thought it's nowhere near enough (I wouldn't have thought anything you eat could contain enough hormones to have an effect considering how much you pump yourself full of, but the milk was nearly the same price and I was drinking a lot so it didn't bother me to change)

I honestly believe the main thing is balanced diet, but don't change things too much you're body is used to certain things and sometimes I think we can go over top, avoid alcohol obviously although the odd 1 won't make a difference, drink milk, the main 1 is deffo water and I was told to eat lots of eggs for protein. Xx

Lots of milk and protein. And get a good range of your 5 a day, even if you're taking vitamins (which you should be, pregnacare or similar but not normal multi-vits as they have the wrong sort of vit A in). Try not to eat too much sugary & fatty junk food.

Also, try to avoid diet versions of stuff, the sweetners aren't good. Things like yoghurt, have a normal one not a low fat one.

I didn't change my diet at all, just cut out alcohol. But then I eat quite well the majority of the time. Interestingly the cycle that was successful for us involved a lot of alcohol!! When I started the nasal spray I was on a hen weekend, and the weekend before my husband had to provide his sample he was on a stag weekend in Prague. He got back sunday evening and had to provide the sample on the Monday. So boozy sperm resulted in our beautiful boy!! What i'm trying to say is changing your diet may not matter so don't beat yourself up for eating something naughty or stress about getting everything organic. My consultant told me not to diet or change my diet drastically in the lead up and during treatment
