What to do?

Ok, I've just found out my SIL is pregnant. Well, they haven't told us yet lol, MIL did but they're coming over tomorrow night.

I'm really not wanting to get into a debate about names. When we told them we were ttc last year, she told me her favourite names but tbh I can only remember one (Ava I think).

I don't want her listing off names she likes in case they're names I like. I chop and change my mind atm and have a list...kind of...of the ones I'm keen on.

Do you think it's fair for me to say please don't tell me the names you like, unless there is a specific name you have already for a boy and girl and that's what they'll definitely be called? Lol. My Mum says to just say not to say names and first come (me) first serve lol, but I understand she might have a name that's been "her name" for ages. Just hope it's not on my list!

im in the same situ, my sil is due a month before us. Pretty sure we dont have the same taste in names but we have staked our claim on our boys name as it is the only one we agree on!!

Yeah, I would - seriously!! With the amount of names out there it's not likely that you will come up with the same ones but still - play your cards close to your chest x

I wouldnt give away any of yours or discuss names with her she likes, just in case, but i think it would be really thoughtful to check she hasnt got a name she has her heart set on. Especially if you accidentally say its one you are considering, that could be upsetting for her. When my sister in law was pregnant I asked my husband to tell his brother that we would prefer they didnt use Rose if it was a girl as its my grandmothers name and was top of my own list despite the fact we werent even pregnant at the time. If she is sensible she will let you know if she has a definite favourite but maybe you are not close enough for her to say? I think it would just be a kind gesture, especially as you are going to get first pick, to double check she hasnt picked one already?

Thanks Star Will play it by ear tomorrow and see how it goes. I'm sure she's not at name discussing yet...although tbh I wouldn't be surprised!

Maybe she'll ask me and if she does I'll say I've got a list. Maybe I should discuss it with OH lol idk. I have a few faves atm but tbh they change so much!
