What to do with DS when I go into labour?

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas for what I could do with DS (two an a half years by due date) when I go into labour?

Mum an dad live 2.5 hours away.

DS's dad is a very hit-and-miss.

I literally have no one else who could have him if mum an dad don't make it on time, or DSs dad flakes out.

Labour with my son was just under four hours, so, even calling mum an dad at the first contraction could still mean new bub arrives before they get here to watch DS.

Xx

Is there any close friends or family that could watch him. I have this issue also but i know i can depend on my mum. Its hard and frustrating to know who to get to take ur baby. I hope u do get it sorted x

I have three children to put somewhere, I do have family. What about neighbors? I'm close to mine xx

I know a couple neighbours by name but that's as far as that goes.

I have a couple friends I could call through the day know they'd take him but no one I'd call at 3am, except mum an dad. Or a couple friends who live equally far away.

Like, what on Earth happens if I just, show up at the hospital with him in tow? Xx

People must turn up with their children in tow. Whether they're asked to take them away again I'm not sure.

Could one or your parents come and stay with you for a couple of weeks so they're there for when you go?x

Stupid flat has "two" bedrooms. Mine, and DSs "cupboard". (His bed's in there and I can just about open the door).

Neither my parents nor myself wil be in a position to couch-it.

They've offered to spend a couple nights in a hotel, but, with a five-week standard window of arrival...

Just be my luck they're in the hotel for like, the week over my due date, go home, and I go into labour hours later.

They'll drive back and forth as many times as needed, at whatever stupid hour of the day. The willing is absolutely there, it's just the physical distance.

They'll take DS, too. Come get him and go back to theirs, and keep him for as long as needed, but... I don't want to be "pushing DS out the door to make way for baby", and whilst I'm happy for him to go, I'm anxious that he be around as much as possible so he's included.

I know something will work itself out, ultimately... I'm just tryna put a plan in place to cover the bases, so to speak. Xx

Could you talk to your birthing unit, explain the situation and see if you can bring him along til your parents arrive to collect him?

Thankfully we have a lot of family we live within 20 minutes who were able to help out looking after our eldest when I ended up in the hospital.

We also kept him full time with the childminder so she could have him.

We did have the advantage of having an elective section and although it did end up going a bit balls up, we were able to stick to the original plan.

I know you've previously mentioned issues with his dad, is it only him who has him while you're in work?

Ima ask the MW tomorrow what happens if I just turn up with him.

When I was working, his dad and I had him between us, and he went to nursery once a week.

That's it.

As I said, there are a couple girls I could leave him with through the day, but, not overnight. Xx

I don't have any kids (as you know!) but I wanted to say that I think you're right and it will make sense when it happens. The hospital aren't going to turn you away of there is no one else! I will be sendi moral support possibly from a hospital bed! Xxx
