I'm probably going to sound like a petulant ass, but I'm so upset.
Since I found out I was pregnant at 3 weeks, hubby and I had already picked out names!
For a girl, Poppy was my absolute favorite.
Lo and behold we are having a girl, and we've been referring to her as Poppy since the 4d scan.
When we picked the name right at the beginning of my pregnancy, we chose it before it got popular. People were saying they'd not heard it before or not heard it in years. It was perfect...It just fit somehow.
And then everyone started calling their daughters Poppy and it's really got to me.
I just haven't fallen in love with a name as much as that, and now it's literally got me so depressed. I don't want to call her something else. I feel a little like we've been robbed in a way. You'll probably think I'm pathetic but it was perfect.
Hubby says we can still call her Poppy but idk now...It was so unique, and now I feel like it's not special to us anymore.
Yet, I don't want to call her anything else. :'(
Please don't leave hate...I'm not trying to offend anyone, just feel so crap about it.

Im the same I had Ruby picked for my second to go with her sister Alice, then I saw tonnes of Rubys so it put me off the name, in the end I went with Temperance to make 100% sure it wouldn't be popular lol, Alice is now on the top 100 list I love her name and im less worried about it now but Im not happy about it lol.

If you love it go for it, but I know how much it can put you off and its fine to change! She might not be a poppy when she is here xx

Thank God. I was hoping it wasn't just me being stupid or anything?
Temperance and Alice are lovely names!
It sounds ridiculous cause she isn't even here yet, but I feel like she's already lost her identity.
We were/are?? going to go with Poppy Isabella. We had other names, but nothing compared.
Yeah, don't blame you! lol
Thanks xx

it was another mum that did it, her daughter is called ruby and I said 'oh that's what we are having' and she said she wished she hadn't because there where 5 in her class!

Thanks I love Alice and Temperance's names I especially love the comments I get for having such an unusual name, I know Alices middle name is Olivia and I hate it now! There are so many I wish id have called her Alice Anastasia or something else. Maybe have a look around with an open mind and see if any names spring out at you.

Your not been stupid at all its such an important thing its what you will be saying for the rest of your life lol xx

And it will grind you every time you see another 'Poppy' if you do use it. If you love it I wouldn't be put off though. What about Penelope--- Penny instead of Poppy? x

I feel the same about Rosie - old fashioned but not overly used.

Since my Rosie was born I've heard two more and mu dad is an put of hours doctor driver and he has to log calls and he said there's tones of Rosie's! its literally boiled my piss!!

I'm still glad I used the name tho - couldn't imagine her being anything else! I would say as long as you don't no any people directly who have used it recently I'd just go for it! But i completely understand! Xx

It's so difficult to find nice names and when you find when you really love it would he a shame not to use it? I think poppy is a lovely name. The only thing that would put me off is if I personally knew another poppy, if it were just because it was popular I think I would still use it. Let's face it, how hard is it to find a completely unique name? We all come accross people wih the same name at some point, as long as it is not the name of someone that you are in contact with/see all the time then I don't see a problem wih sticking with poppy x

I am the same! I really wanted Isla but apparently that will be top ten this year and I really don't want an overly popular name xxx

Aww Rosie's beautiful! We had Rosie on our list too lol :)
I didn't think there were that many Rosies out there either! Ooooh what a pain!!! >_<
Hmm I don't know people personally, but I have a friend whose aunt just had a baby girl and was going to call her something else, but then called her Poppy after she was born >_> Not impressed...
xx

We thought of that, but then it reminded us of Penny from the Big Bang Theory and she's a little...Well...lol we didn't want to use it xD
Thank you though xx :)

It really is! Arghh...Like I said, it was perfect.
We spent all night and morning looking at girls' names, and we have a few we like, but nothing that really grabs us, you know? :(
Yeah, that's very true. I know tonnes of Sarahs (my name) and I curse my parents for not giving me a more unique name. I hate Sarah for me lol it's so plain, and I'm really not xD
Thank you...And oooh just seen your ticker! A recent BFP? Congratulations!! :D xx

Really!? I literally have never met anyone called Isla in my life, it's such a beautiful, unique name and would be a shame not to use it.
What about Elsa?? :)
Yeah I know what you mean! Grrrr...So annoying - we think we've finally found something beautiful that nobody uses/has used for a long time and then boom suddenly everyone is using it like they read your mind!
xx

Ooooh that's a bummer. I'm having real difficulty because I would like a name that is not too popular but not too out there either. I have Poppy on my list for middle names. The only consolation is that you have realised now before she is born and not 6 months down the line when she's already been named and poppy's are popping up everywhere!

In my area there all of a sudden seems to be a massive splurge of Aela's! It is a lovely name but there's so many of them now! The oldest one I know is about 3 or 4 and the rest are all babies and I often think that the 3 year olds mother probably chose it as something unique!

I feel cheated? Idk why but it's like she's lost her identity already? We had the name (and also Riley or Harry for a boy) right from when I got my BFP!! We've spent all night and all morning trying to find a new name but nothing feels right. We've always known her as Poppy, I guess. Idk anyone PERSONALLY that's calling their daughter Poppy, but I'm seeing it everywhere now. I feel like part of me is gone? It's so weird but it feels like we've lost her in a way. Idk this whole pregnancy just keeps going wrong. I refuse to call her anything else but at the same time it's like...Great.

My eldest daughter is called Ruby (8) and my youngest is Poppy (almost 6).

At the time of choosing names we chose Ruby as it was my husbands Gran's name. I think it was about 20 something in the list and the following year it was in the top 5! With Poppy I just loved loved loved the name. Looking at her now I couldn't imagine her being called anything else. If you love it, use it. However original you try to be you will always find another child with that name, or 'someone will know someone'.

As far as the girls are concerned, they love meeting other girls with the same name.

I do know how you feel though. I am having a boy and have been put off a certain name because I have seen it mentioned so many times on this forum and I thought it was pretty original!

Go with your heart. Poppy is such a beautiful name and if you love it, use it. X

Thing I've learnt is - some people have creativity etc - and some don't

For that reason when people ask is about names and if we have any in mind we say no because people talk etc and I'd hate for a name we pick to be used by another pregnant friend

My friend has already said if she's having a girl she will be called Isla - personally it's not my cup of tea but she told me that before she was pregnant when I was about 15 weeks - so that was her way of saying if you have a girl I have dibs on Isla as a name

I'd just call her poppy - everyone knows you've called her that from day dot so why change it :)

They're such beautiful names! :)
Sooo many girls round here have called their daughters either Lily, Leah, Olivia etc. Literally nearly every single one I've heard of!
Luckily, I wasn't drawn to any of those. I'd hate to be a sheep!
We did also think of Amira. It's Arabic for Princess, but rarely used for Caucasian girls, so...But we can't get over Poppy. It's gorgeous and she already has a 'Poppy personality', we think lol. Even though she's only a bumpy! We'll probably still go with it :) Maybe?
Thank you xx

Popular names are popular for a reason..because they're nice names that appeal to the majority. I find your 'sheep' comment a little offensive to those who have chosen a popular name..wouldn't do for us to all be the same.

If you love the name poppy, name your little girl poppy...of course there will be others with the same name but she will be your poppy... And she will suit it perfectly.
My sister was very nearly named poppy but my dad vetoed it. She was born on Remembrance Day so would have been quite fitting xx

I wasn't trying to be offensive...I was referring to the girls who live near me who have named theirs all the same; I did point that out. I wasn't offending anyone on here...

Just like to back Shea up on this (I'm the husband/daddy!) Nothing she says is meant personally or as an insult unless it's literally directed at someone. she has Aspergers and isn't completely aware of what is/isn't considered "insulting" to some. But I can clarify she wasn't doing it to have a pop at you or anyone else she literally was talking about the girls specific to our hometown. Just to save arguments or anyone getting upset.
Thanks
