I was speaking to my pregnant friend today and she'd never heard this, I hadn't either so it came as a huge shock and I panicked when it happened.

After you have given birth (either vaginally or by c-section...) when you sit / stand up there will be a HUUUGE gush of blood coming out of your vagina. Honestly loads will feel as though it's a big balloon full that has burst and comes flooding out.

There you go. Hopefully a bit of pre warning will make you less likely to freak out.

Xxx

You won't notice it! There's blood everywhere and you bleed a lot After anyway!

I was spinal blocked so had to have someone wash me down and change my bed matts for me!

Yip! LOL I had this. I was on the ward with my daughter and hubby had just came back, they had given me a big bed pad type thing and I moved to stand up and woosh. I flooded the bed. None of the midwives even batted an eyelid just stripped the bed and changed it, so must be very common.

Can't say it happened to me! Unless I just lost my "whoosh" during labour x

I've heard this too. My cousin said even when she got home and hopped in the shower it was gushing. I like to be pre warned so I don't automatically think I'm bleeding to death xx

There was a thread similar to this in tri 2 a few weeks ago and Im so glad I read it!! As a Ftm I think I'd have a heart attack assuming I was heamorraging
Typical, we get 9 months off having a period and then it all comes at once

It's the breastfeeding causing contracting down of uterus that surprised me. Exactly ten mins into each early feed - gush onto my pad of bleeding !!

Childbirth mmmmm it's a good job it's worth it x

Honestly just buy a nighty! I had two c sections, so ended up with a spinal block and a catheter in both times so couldn't wear anything on my bottom half.

I can't remember what it was like first time around really, but my second time around the bleeding was not pleasant for the first couple of days. Thankfully I was bed bound the first day and didn't actually have to see it myself. The midwives and nurses were fab about cleaning me and the bed up though.

Although it's normal, always mention it to the midwife etc if you're concerned about your bleeding or if there's any clots etc. I was passing a lot of clots which they were concerned about initially although all was fine.

Trying to find a nighty with buttons for bfing is a nightmare! I've been looking for yonks and am really struggling, think I'll have a massive online hunt.

Never had the whoosh when I stood up but I remember showering immediately after he arrived and I couldn't get clean, it wouldn't stop!

Kumber I've seen them in all the supermarkets. I got a few in sainsburys. Nothing fancy, not maternity but they look like they will do the trick x

Xjd I found two pairs in mothercare for £24 I think. They are maternity and for breastfeeding too. Both black, polka dot.

primark have a selection of about 8 nighties with buttons :) ive got 3.

wouldnt bother with Pjs as much. post natal is hot - we are all due int he summer - you will want to wear as less as possible - i had a march baby and neary slept naked the one night in hospital - plus the post natal sweats start! ugh they suck!

loose big nighties with buttons and massive black pants, loads of mat pads - thats all you need for the first month. :)

I had this after my section. Got my catheter out, stood up and within seconds looked like I was in a horror film there was so much blood! X

Luckily for the evening and the morning following the nurses and midwives changed my pads as I had a section. I remember not being too horrified by the blood, to me it just looked like a very heavy period and it wasn't bright red blood but quite brown.
My advice would be wear as little as possible. I had a feb baby and cooked the whole time I stayed in hospital.
